head units with too much flash

Do head units with complicated or flashy displays usually lack sound quality or sound control?

As in, would i be better off spending 500 on a head unit with a very plain display versus 500 for a hu with some really nice display?

My excelon kdcx-559 is getting a little beat up and i am looking to upgrade. Looking for something that gives me alot of control of the sound but still looks decent.

Thats almost like saying do cars that have colorful paint jobs lack performance.. It does not make a difference. Some units are flashy, and some are not..

i personally hate flashyness on decks... unless the falshyness accomplishes somthing.. for example dot matrix displays and stuff are flashy but are awsome because that flashynes actually has a use other then some mainstream decks now have flashing colored buttons and other shit that is just annoying... but that is just my opinion

The Pioneer 780mp is the flashiest h/u i have seen but it still looks very clean and sounds awesome. There are tons of things you can use to tweak the sound like LPF and HPF for your crossovers, BMX, Comp, BBE, 16 band EQ, Time Alignment, Loudness, and SLA. Its not just about a good EQ anymore these days. This head unit can really help you creat really good sound imaging. When someone tells you to get an Eclipse or an Alpine that costs alot more than a 780mp do not listen to them. Flame on.

eclipes CD4000 or CD5000 is right the choice for you
Now why would you recommend him 2 of the ugliest decks on the market when he said he wants performance but still wants decent looks.??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Seriously. The Premier 880 combines looks and performance.

Flashy head units certainly do not take away from any sound quality, they just add to the price tag. I saved 100.00 by not going with the flash and dash. Sure is nice to look at, but does not enhance sq at all. Why not just go with the X-590. It is the same head unit more or less. How can you go wrong.

Well what i was asking...to be slightly more precise....are there instances where a manufacturer will skimp on sound quality to add extra flash?
I guess you could say it depends on the mfg. Some do and some don't. The more reputable brands don't for the most part. When you see a popular (reputable) brand make a nice head unit that has a plain display it is because they want to appeal to a different market than the YOUNG KIDS who want all flash. They don't do it because they would have to skimp on better internals if they did have flashy displays. All in all I guess if you stay within the better brands you should be fine.

Dual is a fine example of flash without the reliability or good features.

Just take a gander there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
