if i turn up the volume on my head unit to much will it distort the speakers. because ijsut replaced my stock speakers with after market and there getting distorted and i was thinknig maybe i should buy an amp to run the speakers? any input is greatly appreciated

Any head unit will distort if you push it past its useful maximum volume. You might stop by an install shop, ask them to take a quick listen and tell you whether it's the normal head unit clipping or a sign of something wrong. Chances are an amp would help greatly.

unless you're going to stupid loud levels, the head unit should be able to keep up and not distort. you might have some noticiable noise but not distortion. models and specs of the equipment would help.

its a kenwood kdc-mp825 and i turn it up to about 25 maybe a little more. it goes up to 35

there rockford fosgate power tl52c's ive got 2 in the front and 2 in the back.

Your HU's amp is probably distorting. Mainly because the speakers RMS is at 60watts and your HU's RMS is at 22watts. The peak on the HU is only at 50watts. So at your HU's peak, you're still underpowering the speakers.

When you hit peak power on an amp, it sends little spikes of voltage up the lines which in turn translate to distortion, and in many cases if these spikes last long enough and happen alot they can cause irreparable damage to the speaker.

Look into getting an amp that has an RMS at around 60 watts up to 85 or so. And that would be to each channel.

what would be a good one. i am terrible at reading wattage. i never know if i am getting amps with to much or to little. ive allready blown three sets of subs doing this. so if someone could find me an amp that could power those speakers and let me know of some good tweeters that would be awesome.

turn your hpf to the lowest setting and experiment from there mine crosses over @ 80, 100, 125, 160, you will lose some distortion
