head unit

First post, so hi everyone

I'm a bit of an audio buff, and I'm planning on putting a nice little stereo in a car I'm working on. Problem is that there is just to many brands and to many products out there, both head units and speakers. Theres some review websites and if you have a favorite one you check out let me know.

What I'm trying to do is get a general fealing of what brands are great, which ones are crap, and which particular head units are gems.

What I'm looking for is simply a head unit that has great sound quality, I don't need flash or anything like that. I'm most likely going to have it hooked to an external amplifier so its internal amplifier is not as important as the pre-amp outputs.

To start things off, what is the general feeling on blaupunkt?

For the price kenwood excelon decks are a solid buy

kenwood, alpine, pionner and jvc all make good units it's really a matter of personal preference and what options you want to have, like bt or a usb port. blau units are good as well but most people are not familiar with them.

Ok cool, I've also seen some Dual head units how are they? I'm interested because I've got a Dual turn table which I think was a somewhat respected brand back in the day. Of course that doesn't necessarily have any correlation to this day, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Jon, there are lots of options for you to choose from. Now that we have a bluetooth and no portable device law here in BC, you should short list a cd player that has these either on board or as an option. msn is a great way to talk in real time, forbidden at telus dot net if you want some info.
