Head Unit signal-to-noise ratio?

i'm getting a new head unit and i was looking at old threads and they say you should get a clean head unit that it won't sound like crap when you amplify it so is it better to have a higher signal-to-noise ratio than a smaller one like they provide on crutchfield? or what are your opinions on the cleanest head units?

S/N ratio is only one spec of many. You can't judge a HU based solely on that. In terms of the numbers, the difference between 90dB and 100dB s/n is insignificant.

A better question is to ask what's the best sounding HU for the money you have to spend. And before asking that I'd recommend using the search - it's been discussed here many times before.
