So I am planning to build a system in my Ford Excursion and can’t decide on whether I want to use an iPad mini with a sound processor behind it or a nice double din head unit. What do you guys consider the pro’s and con’s of each? I mostly listen to the radio and CD’s but I hear that there are now digital downloads that rival or beat CD’s in terms of SQ and I think that an IPad mini would give me a great source for both.

The other parts of the system will be a 3 way component speaker setup in the front doors and two nice 18” subs in the back. The front pair of 3 way components will be powered by separate 2 or 3 channel amplifiers and the subs will have a mono amp on each one for a total of 2 amps and 2 subs.

Any pro’s and con’s or advice or suggestions would be great.

There are a couple of options. You can use a marine bt unit. They come in the size of a hockey puck and can mount anywhere. This is the marine unit.

There are bluetooth amplifiers. You can just use your phone or an I Pod as the music source and not touch the radio.
