Head unit just started skipping bad??

I have had my h.u. For a few months now a Kenwood excelon KDC x998 and have never heard the cd skip with one 12in woofer. This past weekend I installed 3 SQ hds3s. The 1st couple days I didn't play them very hard , day 3 and 4 I cranked them up and my audio control epic center was saying a 147db no skipping. These past couple days I can't get past 141db with the h.u. Skipping bad. It even does it around 137 138 moderately. Does anyone know what all the sudden is causing the bad skipping. Do I need to have my h.u. serviced. Did something rattle loose? If it is the h.u. And will always have problems with this model Does anyone know a good unit that has DSP built in that won't skip? I have also heard drops in voltage will lead to skipping but I have completely upgraded the electrical and if that was the problem why didn't it do it the days I had no issues. I have been slowly building this system over the last few months and it's disappointing I can't even turn it up now. If it is this headunit I'll be quick to get something different as long as it has most of the features the Kenwood I have now has. Thx for any input

Use USB bud your subs will play lower when broken in sometimes lower isn't always audible. That would be my guess /shrug. Why are you using CD btw lol this isn't the 90's bubba :

I had an experience such as this years ago before I knew anything about upgrading electrical. Thought my CD was skipping but found it to be my voltage. Amps were cutting in and out at high volume. ...I see you state you have upgraded your electrical.Wat upgrades have you done.

try using a USB or AUX with an ipod and see what happens

Maybe it's the way I'm using the USB and/or aux but the quality seems to be crap. I haven't had a system worth a **** since the late 90s so I'm alil behind and need to be educated in that department. My mids and highs seem to be half as loud as a cd. The bass isn't as bad because I'm using the epic center. I use an aux from my phone (pandora, music files etc.) and have a thumb drive in the front USB. I would love to get the sound quality from anything besides a cd.

2 runs of 0g from a xs 3400 to a 3farad cap. 240amp alt. I'm thinking it something in the h.u. It's getting worst by the min just came back from a ride and now anything over 134 it's skipping non stop . I have to lower the volume instantly to get any sound.

Also if it was electrical it would have done it the 1st couple days I played it loud. It started when I was seeing what these 12s had and hit that heavy note for a few secs the meter read 147 (it skipped) and ever since than and has been getting progressively worst.

Yea use usb, I have a kenwood x891 and all I use is usb, I haven't seen a cd in years.

I think that's what I'm going to do just use flash drives. I'm new to this where do you download your music from where I can get good files like Flac or Wav files

Ram designs decaf music. Or datpiff u can get mixtapes

Usb in what way? like ipod or an actual flash drive plugged in?

Best sq ive found was the prs with a newer gen ipod plugged in.

You can also download audacity and convert music to wav or whatever you want. That's a super program and helps locate clipping and all kinds of crap really a great piece of software to use and it's free. I use only USB for music now I can't even imagine trying to use a CD in my ride lol.
