head unit install problems

well, i just installed my alpine cdm-7861 head unit and i got some issues. first off, it only turns on some of the time. if it doesnt turn on, i turn my car off and on again and that fixes it. second, sometimes when i push the buttons it turns off for a split second then comes back on. it might just be the display that turns off becuase the radio keeps going. and third, i bought the link cord so i can plug my ipod into it using rca cables, but i cant figure out to get the head unit to play the songs from my ipod.

one word....AUX

look for that in the menu, and it sounds like there's a bad connection to the face plate if it keeps turning off whenever you push buttons, where'd you get it from?

What kinda vehicle is this? It sounds like one of a couple things. It could be that you tried using the park light wire for your ground wire, I have seen tha before. It could also be a poor conection at either the ign wire or the constant power wire. As for the Ipod thing I dont sell alpine so Im not sure but as the poster above said it sounds like you need to turn it on in the menu

i bought it from fellow forum member VOA_NIGHTMARE, i also dont have a remote so i think there are some buttons on it that arent on the faceplate. and i already looked for aux and its just fm, fm2, am, and cd.

its a 1995 ford taurus. i just crimped together all the existing connections to my new wiring harness and plugged it in.

oh nice......um, no, best advice is to take it to a shop and have them redo it, because it sounds like something's touching something else, do you have the dimmer hooked up?

You need to hold down a button on the face plate, I cant remember the marking on it right now but its in the lower left hand corner I believe and it will enter a sub menu after about 4 seconds and after scrolling through the options you can turn aux on and off

ok, well i cleaned the connectors but my radio decided not to turn on. i guess i just have to take it to someplace and have them figure it out. it seems like it only works when i unplug my battery and plug it back in.

it could just be a bad stock ground, before you do that, try redoing the ground to a closer piece of metal, like part of the unibody, something that looks structural.

call alpine is my only advice, did some quick searching, if i don't find anything by the end of tonight, call alpine, you have to turn on the aux function, unless you have the manual, look for it in there if your lucky enough to have it.
