HDTV's...what do you have?

Ok let me explain Ambilight.

The TV has a few rows of LED lights on the back side of it...Wall side. And say you are watching Discovery HD Theater and its about Ocean life....well when the screen is lit up blue for the ocean those LED's light up blue...illuminating the wall behind the TV. Its pretty neat. I don't have HD service yet...Ive got the Direct TV HD box sitting right here, just have to call them to get it hooked up.

Pictures shall come tomorrow. And some of you guys have nice looking setups //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My dad is waiting until the industry decides what standard they are going to chose or at least let the prices drop.
Well you guys spend 2-4 grand on a tv but dont want to spend $300 on a high def player that just doesn't make sense.

kind of like buying some b&w 804s and hooking it up to a $100 home theater in a box receiver.

It will be a long time before a winner is declared, if ever...

heh maybe i should sell my receiver and amp and buy some b&w 800ds and hook them up to a cheap receiver off ebay //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

I don't understand why this sarcasm is really needed? I forgot that you have a say in what my parents buy I guess? He has HD channels....just b/c he can't watch blu-ray or hd-dvd's doesn't mean that fuc*ing comets are gonna fall from the sky, followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.

Now going back to being serious I understand that it would seem stupid but he just likes to buy things whenever they are a little cheaper. He doesn't buy everything all at once he likes to save and then buy items.

Oh and it's your money, I couldn't care less if you went out and bought b&W 800 series and hooked it up to a cheap receiver. You do what you wish.

It makes plenty of sense actually. They just invested 2-4 grand on a standard they are fairly certain will stick around for the foreseeable future. If all goes well, there should be no reason to replace it for quite a while. However, unless players go dual format... they will certainly be boned one way or another by the format wars. I can see not wanting to spend a minimum of 300 dollars each on a dvd player for both formats. Hell, maybe they just dont watch movies very often?

Just because someone sees something in a different light than you do, doesn't mean their logic is flawed.

Well I ended up at bestbuy...and out of all the TVs I looked at this one impressed me the most. Out of the ones in my price range...and hell I didnt know it had ambilight till after I made the decision to buy it...so that was great.
Just an FYI, but you can NOT judge a TV by the picture you see in the store. NONE of them have been calibrated, so you're only seeing the "out of box" settings. With calibrating one of the other TV's might actually look the best.

I'm saying that in general, not about the specific one you bought as I'm not familiar with it.

Go to avsforum and search for your TV and see what the feedback is on it. Might also have calibrating tips, etc...

With all that said, as long as YOU enjoy watching it that's all that really matters.

I bought a 32" HD TUBE TV a few months back. I still think the good old tube has the BEST picture going. And it's only a bedroom TV.

Using a DLP projector in the family room for 92" of goodness....

The HDTV would be more than worth it with DiscoveryHD. Some of the shows on there are nothing short of breath taking. Console games all run at least 480p now, so you have that too.

After playing Gears on an HDTV, and wanting to see Forza2 in HD...Ive decided to get one. Some of you have very clean set-ups. Delvryboy, where did you get the stands?

What the hell does a line conditioner do? And what difference does a surge protector make, if it's "made" for something else?
