hds315 not hitting hard

My old amp worked fine, and yeah it is, but a couple of strands are sticking out where in goes into the amp.

You still have the old amp? If so, try it. Is this amp brand new?

Like I said I tried two different subs, one in a sealed box and one ported.......

Are you not getting any sound? Maybe the amps on slave mode instead of master , worth looking at

Brand new, old amp doesn't have the wattage to power my new sub. Old amp worked great with wires, pulled it out and tried to reuse the wires but nothing is working

Just for troubleshooting try the old one. It will power it enough to make a difference.

didn't notice any difference with the old amp, when you turn the bass all the way up though on the head unit or on the ipod connector, if you have your hands on the sub you will feel it vibrate a little bit whenever the bass hits.

What kind of box do you have it in? Check to see if any of your old wires are burnt, i had that happen once and it literally reduced the output to near zero

currently using a display box that a car shop was using for one of their 15"s i have a custom one on the way but ups fucked me and i will likely not be getting it for a while. Ill check my wires and will let you know.

I have tried everything I can think of, just getting frustrated and running out of ideals.

I opened up the box and they ran it parralel, i have 2 negatives and 2 positives, i just tried combining them into one port so 1 negative and 1 positive onto the amp and still it didnt go as high as it was supposed to you can just barely feel the subwoofer vibrate a little bit, the tweeterse were alot louder than it to give you some perspective, if you didn't have your hand on the sub you wouldn't even feel it was on in the rest of the car.

Where is your gain set? How did you set it?

its set at around a 4v i think i turned it half way with a knife when i was fiddling with it today

At this point you should use a multimeter and start checking your voltages.

A meter is 10 bucks at walmart. Easy to use man. You gotta see what you're getting to that amp with the car running.

okay, what would i look for with the meter? what would the ideal voltage be?
