HDC318 or Nightshade 18

Don't let the high tuning of the enclosure scare ya bro. I run a HDC3 18" d2 in a 5.4cubes enclosure with two external 6" aeroports and it hits real nice and gets real low. Here's a pic of my setup bro i actually just finished it , but i do plan on maybe to get more power sub amp.

Your answer will depend on who you ask.

Me, AQboy and mlstrass all hang out from time to time. We ALL know what the AQ subs can do. I might do a Nightshade just to see the difference, but thats only to try something different. I have yet to hear a nightshade, but I can swear by the HDC3.

It comes down to whether you like Sundown or AQ They both should perform. I saw where you mentioned liking the look of the Sundown. Go for it.

if resale value matters then the Shade may be the better sub for you, but it's not like people are giving away used HDC's and if they are I'll take em...

Those AQ like tuning around 38hz I heard 3 setup with 38hz tuning. it ounds very nice and my other box is tune to 38hz.

I wouldn't tune that low. I've done my 15's at 35Hz before, but 38Hz seems to be the sweet spot for a daily set up.

An 18 has a lot of cone area and will move plenty of air down low, even tuned at 38Hz. You could build the box at 35 and shorten the port if you want to try 38...

340 with aluminum coils to compare apples to apples. Aluminum flat wire is the standard coil on the NS.

So is 38 optimal for comps or will it need to be a bit higher..

I was planning on running it inverted for daily, then running it standard for comps, to take up a bit of space and tune a little higher

Nice bro I wouldn't tune that low. Tune to 38hz or higher bro I've talked to dj about tuning enclosures etc....I went with 5.4cubes tuned at 38hz with two 6" external aeroports. Hits real nice and loves the lows. Can't go wrong with AQ bro email dj with questions concerns etc....he's a good guy.

The nightshades are nice too. There has been some crazy numbers off a 1500 to each nightshade.
