HDC318 or Nightshade 18

I think they are necessary though. I have one 15" HDC in a 3.5 cube box tuned to 32 HZ and it hammers the lows but anything above 50HZ or so it drops off rapidly. If you have an awesome front stage maybe this isnt a problem but for most of the people running these the higher tuning will give it a flatter frequency response.

why do you have the aq tuned so low? have you tried it tuned higher yet?

$342 shipped on a custom 18" Nightshade is a killer ****ing price...

I had an 18" Nightshade, custom long coil, extra spyders, thicker tensils, 4" coil.. blah blah blah and I had it in 7 cubes tuned to 27 Hz...and it HAMMERED the lows...unlike anything else I've sat in..

How's the build quality compare?
I know the AQ's have the stitched surrounds, and seem really well built.

Don't know much about the 'Shade, other than it can handle copious amounts of power and it's *** end is dead sexy

EDIT: I also thought about IA subs, but I want to updrade to about 3k somedday and there isn't a sub in my price range that'll handle 3k

I own a 15 inch HDC3, and I can swear by it. I've seen 2 HDC3 18s in action on 4000 watts of power. One of the 3 companies you mentioned I will most likely go with in my next car as well.

Until I see a nightshade in action I say get the HDC3.

Thing that turns me off about the AQ's is the high tuning reccomendations

I built several boxes for AQ subs in the last year with all of them tuned to 38Hz and every one of them peaked in the 30's, trunk cars and SUV's. They have NO problem playing below box tuning.

Sleepy_jr runs 2 18's tuned to 38Hz and peaked around 35Hz and his shit will make you hurt off 2k to each sub. It's a VERY impressive daily driver set up that can play loud and low for long periods of time.

I run 2 Sundown 1500D's on each copper coil HDC and they've NEVER complained, even on full tilt burps 7Hz below box tuning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif **** good subs for the $$$...
