HDC3 18 box, 5.5 cubes ok?

Im wanting to put an 18" HDC3 in my focus hatch, but I'm tight on space, I measured my old box that had wiggle room and could've been bigger and it came out to 4.84 cubes, (15x35x20)

You think it would perform well in 5-5.5 cubes? This would be with aero's of course to maximize space. Powered by 2 sundown 1500's.

if thats without port/woofer displacement do a 15. I had my hdc318 in 5.75 net and it could have still used more box.

x2 on that i would do the 15 for the space your workn with.

if it was an spl application then yes. but for daily i would rather have atleast about 8 cubes.

I would say you want to go larger also. As someone else mentioned..you would be better off with the 15".

i asked audioque a few days ago and they told me "The HDC318 copper like 5-6.5 net cubes per sub tuned 36-40hz. Use 16sq" of port opening area per net cubic foot of box volume. 6 net cubes is ideal."

so i'd say you have enough space

5 net is key. He has 5.5 Max, without driver displacement, and port displacement. He should run a 15".

Which is perfect for his application. 4 cubes + port + driver displacement = 5-5.5

You should be fine, you also have plenty of power behind it, so a smaller box in your application should balance out.
