when i start it up in morning this is what happens

on the screen it says windows xp and under it a bar moving left to right to show its loading, then goes to a blue screen that says windows xp windows is startingup for a few seconds then it says welcome and thats it nothing happens just keeps saying welcome..happened to me yesterday too for about 4 hours then it worked..any idea what the deal is?

possibly a driver failing to load? no pop up messages? Did you check the event log? Start > run > eventvwr.msc (enter) ... look for red X's in the Application and System logs.. post back details.

how can i do that if it doesnt load?

Troubleshooting over the net when someone gives you limited information is too tedious. The easy answer is "buy a new one".

You must be a glutton for punishment.

I am actually impressed you have already fully diagnosed the problem with no further info or instruction for him to troubleshoot more.

I have seen this happen with failing IDEs too. Or as stated earlier, drivers not loading properly.

I will stand behind your diagnosis though, doc.

i agree that it could be bad sectors on the hard drive as well though. it gets to a certain point and it either makes it past the bad sector or freezes on it

although, it could also be the cpu fluid, may want to check that

Oh indeed. CPU fluid has burned me before. Quite literally too. I had opened the fill cap and the pressure inside pushed hot CPU fluid all over my face.

cpu mechanics 101...never open the cpu fluid resevoir while the cpu is hot

thats like sticking your finger into a spinning fan blade silly

hey guys i had it taken to a shop that does repairs and he said reason this is happening is because there are 17 viruses(sp) which surprised me since i have avg and spybot and do daily scans on each..any ways he fixed it for me for no charge and everything is back to new..he told me that avg is garbage and to go with norton any suggestions for a really good virus control?
