having absolutely no luck with pca's anymore..

so yeah. i bought my 07 soundstream pca-2000d a while ago, but before it got here, a teammate let me borrow his 06 2000d so i could get my setup together and tune everything. well, it turns out, his was having a problem and he didnt have the money to fix it, so he gave it to me, and when i found it didnt work and told him, he blamed it on me. whatever. so (skipping a huge fight) it gets sent back to soundstream. the problem was it wouldnt come out of protection. and it came back today.

my 07 2000d got here, i hooked it up to my MTs wwaannggeedd on it forever, no problems. i hook it up to my Fi's, takes it for alittle bit and pop, cab fills up with smoke, its fried. i thought i touched 2 wires togehter, but now because of what happened tonight i dont think thats the problem.

sooo my friends comes back from repair tonight. instead of fixing the 06, the sent a brand new 07 in its place. cool, brand new amp. i hook it up, it sounds awesome. crank it up, no problems. keep it at steady near-high volume, no problems. now im just drivin while its wangin..and i hear pop! and get a funny smell, i think to myself..i know this smell..and cab fills up with smoke. now i know for a fact no wires were touching because i thought i did that last time, so this time i made everything nice and neat, no wires near any other wires, electrical tape on EVERYTHING even if it didnt need it.

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? im getting frustrated with soundstream. is it a user error on my part? ive tried everything and taken every procaution. in the mean time while the soundstream(s) have been at repair, ive been installing my other amps just so i had something to listen to with no problems. i dont understand. could there be a flaw with the 07 pca's?

i think im gunna send mine back, they'll switch it out for a new one (i have a really good hookup through a friend) and sell it and maybe get a hifonics or kicker?

anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: and after it popped..one of the blue neon lights was still on? even after i turned the hu off (amp shuts off also)?! light remained on

Im gonna say u didnt set ur gains correctly and tried to push the amp too hard. Guess tho.

i dont have one no. but everything was wired to 1 ohm, and double checked to make sure it was right.

subs a dual 1's, amp is 1 ohm stable, wired to 1 ohm with appropriate voltage

just because it was set to 1 ohm doesnt mean u weren't pushing the amp too hard. I still think it was ur gains. But no way to really tell now.

yeah, possibly. i dont know, its just pissing me off. ive blown 3 amps now under different circumstances with the same outcome

i think im done with soundstream due to whatever is going on.

I blew my hifonics cuse I didnt set the gain correctly. I suggest investing $20 on a good DMM first.

will a dvom perform the same function as a dmm? if so, i could just grab the one at school..

half way gain, doesn't mean its set correctly or its not clipping. You don't need a dmm to set your gains, you can set them by ear. Try turning the gain down the next time and see what happens
