Hardly any air coming from ports...

Ok, some i'm trying to make as many observations about this box as i can.

I asked before the build it having the aero ports run underneath the subs is ok, i got many responses back saying this would be fine.

So i got curious today and cranked it for a few seconds and realized there was hardly any air moving out of the 2 6" ports...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

The ports are about 1" under the subs and run all the way under them because they are so long...Its subs up port to drivers side btw...

could this be my problem on why my box sounds like poo?

It really should be fine.. I've seen a few people run the aero ports a couple inches below the sub and actually I plan on doing the same when I recone my MT to an 18 and build a new box.

What size is the box? This is weird //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

x2 on what blackbonnie said, and azbass has a point, hurricane force winds shouldn't be flying out of the ports, that brings on port noise //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

low port velocity = high SPL.

Thats the point of aeros, you want even flow in and out to the point where small objects like a ping pong ball can levitate in the port.

There could be a couple reasons why your ports aren't moving much air. One could be just the large amount of port area and flare cause low air velocity like others have said or it could be based around the frequency being played.

Play a range of frequencies starting about 10hz higher than your calculated tuning frequency and play down to about 10hz lower than your calculated tuning frequency. Watch the cone for movement and see where the cone moves the least. That is the actual tuning frequency of the enclosure and you should have maximum port velocity there. If you played that range and there wasn't a noticeable frequency that had very low cone movement, more than likely your tuning frequency is way off.

When I was building a a box for my 10'' BL in my ranger I noticed that port up sounded much louder than port to the side. Although this was a reg cab and I ported to the passenger side.

i've noticed this to, in my build for my regular cab it was a lot louder with ports up. theres a guy selling a nice twin 10" box on craigslist, i hope i fits

Like Assman's levitating can in his van...that was freakin tight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yes exactly, this is how hair tricks are done too.

Ever heard of unloading the port?

This is where the frequency being played is much too low for what the box and port is tuned for and air just flows out of the port.

You dont want that much air to flow out of the port, its dangerous.
