handling the power?

i went to the sound comp today and i sat in a guys truck who had 100rms to his fosgate 4x6s so there has to be something somewhere that will handle it. i mean his will handle it obviously, but i think his were the older version of the fosgate 4x6s.

thats what the guy who installed it at performance audio told me. i must have misunderstood him then. he said he wired up the fronts and rears to make a 2 ohm load and he was saying 100 watts of power. he was probly meaning 100 watts total b/t the 2 speakers then. it was just the way he made it sound that i guess i was confused. when i got home i started looking to see if anything could even handle 100 watts and the closest i found was like 50rms.

i wasnt really looking for that much power into 4x6s, i needed a lot of power to run the fronts and it was gonna take that much to run the fronts.....to make a long story short i was searching for a way to run the fronts and rears off the same amp but its not possible b/c of the rms differences. the fronts i want just need too much power.

i have 2 factory (delco) 4x6's that came in my beretta, i had them running at 250 rms and

they handled the power nicely, i had to cut the bass out tho, they sounded like they were

about to blow

you have alot to learn

yes, i do.

i think everyone knows, but i was looking to run them off a 2 channel amp. and wire all the speakers 2ohm so i could get the needed power for the fronts.....if i had 6.5s in the back i could do it but 4x6s arnt meant to handle that much power.

He probably meant he was running a 100 watt amp on them ... This is the rating of maximum clean power available ... It doesn't always put out 100 watts ...
it was a p2002 i think which is supposed to do 100rmsx2 at 2 ohms. cause it was an all rockford system w/ the exception of the HU.

edit: i wish someone who was there today and had talked to that guy so that they could clarify what was in his truck exactly. i know he had fosgate everything, 2 12"p2s w/ a 6001bd amp wired at 2 ohms and all the door speakers wired at 2 ohms. i cant remember how big the cap was.

kinda wrong forum for this one but hopefully everyone is still looking at this thread.....i was planning on getting a jbl 4 channel to run my fronts and bridge it...i think it said 143x2. i found that kenwood has a 2 channel that does 150x2 at 4 ohms which i can get for about 7 dollars more....which is the better buy?

You're missing Jmac's point. Just because the amp can make 100w RMS, doesn't mean it will actually output 100w RMS with music @ a certain volume, or that it was set up and tuned to output the full 100w RMS.

To your 2nd post; what are the actual amp models? All in all, I'd probably take a JBL amp over a kenwood amp. But, let us know the specific models.

the whole system was tuned so that the HU could be maxed all the way out at 62 and no distortion.

the model is the kenwood 7202 which is supposed to do 150x2. oh and i can make the final step up for another 15 dollars which is 170x2. the speakers it is going to power are 150rms.

JBL CS 50.4 $108 143x2 bridged

Kenwood 7202 $115 150x2 2 channel

Kenwood 7252 $129 170x2 2 channel
