Handheld gps units

I'm fairly heavy into outdoors. Every now and then I take week long trips into the nearest wilderness areas and usually go about my way with a map and compass as the area's aren't that large around here.

The thing is that I will be going to Alaska for a couple years pretty soon and plan on spending even more time in wilderness area's. Since the area's are larger I have been considering getting a gps unit. I'm looking for three main things in it. It must be waterproof, have a usable compass even when there is no satellite signal, and must be around 150 bucks. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I think you would be better off bringing a real compass rather than relying on an electronic one built into a GPS unit.

I have a Lowrance iFinder H20 with a Lakemaster card in it. I really like it. That and the Gramin eTrex are the only units I have experience with so I can't really comment on anything else.
