handgun people

I have a F.E.G PJK-9hp. It's basically a Browning hi power clone. It's a good shooting gun and its accurate however I would never use it for carrying because of the size. .40 has a bit more stopping power but 9mm is cheaper, less recoil and has good stopping power. I would get a Springfield XD .45 or a compact Glock for carrying, but not to play with. So it all depends on what you are using the gun for. Keep that in mind when choosing one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The springfield XD's are good guns. I had a subcompact .40.

Though, if you arent comfortable with a weapon, i wouldnt recommend them since they have no safety switch/decocking lever. It uses a grip and trigger safety. Apparantely the 08 models have a traditional thumb safety as well.

I just bought an HK p2000 v2 LEM .40 and i love it. I put 300 rounds through it today. Though HK, Kimber, Sig are expensive, they are worth the money.

I would go to your local range and fire some of their demo weapons.

For just shooting around and plinking I'd go with the 9m. It will have the least recoil (easier to keep on target) and like you mentioned it would be cheaper. I'd try and find a service or tactical model (at least 5" in barrel length) Longer the barrel the more accurate (in theory). If you get your CCW permit then a longer barrel would be a crutch. I would also suggest trying the Springfield's new XD line as well. Once my cash flow allows I'll be purchasing a XD .45 compact for my CCW. I'm hoping to find a 1911 style .45 after that for target shooting.
How or IA's laws on handguns?? I know NY is a pain but concealed carry is allowed. Good luck with your purchase anyways!! Shooting is a hobby all should try at least once!!

you are going to love the XD they are dammn nice

i think my main problem is that im trying to stay around $300 (tax refund), because i dont really need a handgun i have plenty of other guns and spending money on a shotgun or rifle would be alot more practical for me.

i believe iowa is actually re-working there permits making them alittle easier for the everyday person to carry so i hear

Excellent advise!!! Once summer gets here I plan to do exactly that.

If you can find a Walther P99, those are pretty nice shooting guns. A shop in Columbus had them with 2 mags for 279 in 9mm or .40S&W. Just look around. You'll find something that fits your budget and needs.

i just got off the phone with the local cabelas and he said they don't really get to many complaints on the sigma line. they actually ran a sale a few weeks ago and could not keep them in stock - this is when i originally started looking at them but couldn't buy one that day because i didn't have my permit to purchase

Relate it to car audio, would you buy a cheap amp that gets few complaints or a nice amp with no complaints.

I would go check out springfields....seriously..

Price wise, it will be hard to find something better in that range.
