Guns (phoneman)

muzzle flash on glocks ****...i don't like the way the feel or shoot.

para makes some of the finiest 1911 style autos available..period.

but my personal favorite(s) and the one's i own...

s&w model 411 with novaks of course it's a .40s&w

s&w 686 with 4" barrell and hogue's

s&w 629 classic with 8 3/8" barrell

s&w model 17 with 6" barrell and hogues

so there is ur s&w love..hehe

also have a remington model 5 auto loading shotgun, made in the late 40's, patterned after teh early browning auto 5's

(2) marlin model 60 .22lr auto's one stainless(mine) one blued (my son's)..the blued one has a shorter barrell and points a whole lot quicker..

gun i want......sig saur .357 sig auto...phoneman should know what i'm talking about....i can't remember the model..but it's chamber for the .357 sig saur auto rd, supposed to be one of, if not the best self defense rds ever...i'll look it up and see if i can beat phoneman with the info..hehe

also, the desert eagle is one of the finest shooting handguns a person could own. yes it's heavy, but it's heft keeps it on the target..very little felt recoil. also the interchangeability from the .357 to the .44 to the .50 ae is pretty cool as well. and don't forget that they make a 9mm, i believe it's called the american eagle. i've never shot it, so i won't comment on it..just that they do/did make it.

Mrray, I bet you can find a conversion barrel for your 40sw to convert it to a .357sig. Check out Bar-sto (I think that is how its spelled) The make a lot of aftermarket barrels. Since the 357sig case is just a 40sw case necked down then they will use the same mags and bolt face, the only real diff is the barrel. I feel that the 357sig round is probably one of the best self defence auto cartridge rounds available. Some of the loads come real close to comparable 357mag loads which is the ultimate man stopper in all law enforcement handgun rounds with a history of having %80 effectiveness in law enforcement.

Sig 226 and 229 are excellent guns and are very popular in law enforcement and some special opps forces.

I am planning on buying a few more 40s&w in the near future and get bar-sto 357 sig barrels for them. I will most likely get another SA XD40 4", a SA XD40 subcompact, a Kahr PM40, and a sig 229 40. Along with some other guns in different calibers.

Hey steve, Sigs are awsome but if you get one I would stay away from the Sig Pro line. I have handled several and they feel and function very cheaply IMO, I have heard the same from several guys that have owned them, of course they are several hundred dollers cheaper then the 220, 226 and 229.

Oh dont get me wrong, just because I may have 2 barrel for some of my guns does not mean 1 gun will replace 2 for me LOL.

I think a 226 chambered in a 9mm in any configuration would be perfect for some one that wants an extra nice range gun.

Last christmas I got myself 4 guns //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

i'm thinking p226st in .357sig.....

i'm really liking it...going to go look at a few tomorrow now..hehe...

btw...i have fairly large hands, but even still, i think the ruger p89 has got too big of a grip..never have liked that series..

now the ruger redhawks..blackhawks..those i can get into

oh yeah..a little old school..but probably the best .357 mag revlover made..

the colt python..smooth as a babies butt....the diamondbacks weren't bad either..but something about a handbuilt, fromstart to finish revolver...drooollllll

the python rocks!!

I need to get me a 44 mag revolver. I only have 2 revolvers at the time. 1 357 mod 19 in a 6", and a tuaras mod 605 357mag snub nose stainless 5 shot. The snubby serves as a primary and a secondary CCW. At least with a 357mag on hand I can shoot through car doors with ease if I ever had to. I did have a ruger p944dc 40sw but I traded it towards a springfield 1911 ultra compact V-10 45. I never had any problems gripping that gun but it was bulky

i'd love to get my hands on a springfield 1911 ultra compact V-10 45! i love 1911's, the classic auto look.

i'm actually looking to get another 44 mag...probably another 629, only with a comped 4" barrel..home defense with a bang!

my 411 is my carry when i feel the need...185 grain semi jacket hollow's..hehe

My ultra compact V-10 is a smooth looking gun. It has a stainless frame and a blue slide along with rosewood grips or houge grips (what ever I am in the mood for) Its fun to shoot especially in low light conditions like on a cloudy day or after the sun has gone down. The d@mn thing is loud as hell though and is really picky about what brand of ammo you put in it. It only likes really clean hot loads.

I dont use it for anything other then showing off or possible trades or sale for the right price anymore. If I do get rid of it it will be tuff to let go of it since it is so nice just looking at it.

I am personally trying to stay away from comped or ported handguns as far as self defense. They are fun to shoot at the range but can really hurt your vision at night if ever in a lethal situation, not to mention how much louder they are in closed areas. Also if you do keep the 44mag by the bed at night you might check into getting some frangible bullets just incase you do use it it wont go through the perp and then through the wall and into your neigbors house. I really worry about using a 357mag myself and getting unwanted over penetration.

possible sell or trades, huh? how about a pair of 15" treo ss's for ur springfield? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif i'll pay shipping for both items even!!

never gave a thought to the muzzleflash of a comped shortbarrel. in lowlight, that would be a problem..as to overpenetration...all my home guns hold just hollows that i groove out deeper.usually of a non jacketed variety. yeah, the barrel gets dirty, but the exposed soft lead mushrooms better then if it were even semi-jacketed. in my 411(the gun kept by the bed) i use 169 grain roundnose that i notch. i don't care to much about being .5" group accurate in the house.

however, u trade me..lol..and that springfield will be the new home gun....nothing like a .45 slug tearing thru jello!!

btw, why do u think desert eagle's are mantle pieces only? they have excellent build quality, excellent handling characteristics, and offer excellent second, third shot capabilities. yes, they are indeed heavy, but that is about their only fault that i could find.

Thanks for the offer but I dont need any subs. As far as the desert eagle I think it is a very sophisticatd weapon but has no real practical use IMO. It is just one of those guns that you would take to the range to show off every now and then. I will probably end up owning one one of these days but I wont use it for being a weapon. Its to big to carry for self deffense and I would rather use a revolver to hunt with. Desert Eagles are a very rare type of auto pistol for the fact that the action operates from a gas charge instead of recoil like most all handguns. The only other gas charged auto pistol that I can think of is the H&K P7m8. The gas operation is part of the reason they are so smooth. I do like the Desert Eagles but just for a collector purpose.

so who says u NEED subs to trade? lol...

it's funny how auto handguns are recoil operated (size, weight issues, i know) and long arms tend to be gas. it's the exceptions to both that really stand out..the desert eagle and H&K for handguns and the benelli in long arms(shotguns)..i'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that make the biggest noise (no pun intended)

i like the smoothness of gas operated, but the reliability of recoil..except in the benelli..i hated my benelli eagle shotgun. kicked like a mule and shot, pointed horribly...of course i believe now i had a bent barrel tube and didn't know it.

and ur correct, a handgun that weighs almost as much as a small rifle, really ain't carry material...but then again in illinois, u can't carry..open or concealed.

anyway....how's the shopping steve? i didn't get to today like i wanted..oh well..

hehe

Well ...

I narrowed it down to the following ... they're all in stock, all felt good, and all fired nice. I cut a few off my list after just trying to grip them. If I can't pick it up and fire, it's not comfortable to me, and I don't want it. Picky, yes, but you know how that goes.

Taurus PT92 9mm - Gold accents and mother of pearl grip. I wasn't initally looking that this one, but I get distracted extremely easily by shiny objects ... so I wound up looking at it.

Taurus PT945 - Gold accents and mother of pearl grip. Looked awesome, that's why I picked it up. Not 100% sure, but it's still a nice gun.

Beretta 96G Elite II - Just liked the way this one felt and shot.

Smith & Wesson 952 - Easiest of the group to fire for me. Can see me getting either the 629 Classic or 629 PP .44 Magnum sometime soon, just for fun.

Any input?

- Steve
