What? A story about a guy taking .40 rounds in the chest and still standing? What is your point, that a 9mm with LESS knockdown power would have done better? Im sure the officer would have rather been firing a .44magnum at that point, but we dont nd cant expect officers to carry massive caliber weapons around with them.

Go with the SW40 round, whatever gun you chose. Not much larger than a 9mm, so your clip holds almost as many rounds, but the 40 has the knock-down power of a .357 magnum. Far superior to a 9mm. There's a reason the market has been flooded with 9mm's... everyone wants a SW40 these days, for good reason.

A 9mm has a Hatcher rating in the 30's (depending on the actual round used) while .40 S&W has a rating in the mid to high 50's. Now, if you are educated and know what a Hatcher rating is, you also know that anything over a 50 rating is considered a knock-down 90% of the time, while the 9mm is in the 50% bracket. These are comparisons using a proven method that has been around for decades. This rating certainly implies the superiority of the .40 S&W over the 9mm within the context of this discussion. If your argument merely stems from the fact that you dont like my wording in describing this... "superior"... Im willing to live with that disagreement between us.
Even your impact energy numbers you posted show a significant increase in energy between a 9mm and a.40S&W... So beyond your penetration chart, that certainly does not characterize knock-down force, I dont see where you are basing your argument that a .40 ISNT superior to a 9mm.

the 9mm federal hst expands to .78 the 45 federal hst 230 grain i think expands to .86 the 9mm and 40 expanding difference is very slim and the penetration isnt that much either. If you look at the results for one shot kill. The 45 is the highest of coure around 90% then the 40 around 85% and the 9mm around 81% then the 38spl around 78% cant rember exactly how close the numbers are to what i rember but its close and gives u a close example

Also why would u take a 9mm over a 40 u loose the rounds and not much difference in ballasitcs testing if u want more than a 9mm get a 45 u dont get that snappy feel from the 45 or 9 as u do the 40 or 357sig.
