word.Yeah, it really is just a good idea to start on an accoustic. Theres nothing wrong with it at all. Im sure almost every rock star has started on accoustic. You don't have to hassle with the electics of it, you can take it anywhere, the whole house doesnt hear your mistakes as you're starting, you build strength in your fingers and wrist, and you build the caluses on your fingers. And trust me, building the caluses is a pretty good reason. Electric guitar strings seem to be much harsher on the fingers.
Well it all depends on the gauge you want to play at, electric can have some really big gauges and acoustic really small. On my Ovation i have extra light gauges which is the 0.009 gauge. It all depends on the sound you want and what ur comfortable playing as to what strings you get. Bigger gauges are usually. harder to fret than smaller onesword.electrics seem to have smaller gauge strings. and after playing a while it can leave tenderness on uncallused fingers.
hmmm...to me it seems to be the other way around. especially since acoustics have 4 wound strings as opposed to three.word.electrics seem to have smaller gauge strings. and after playing a while it can leave tenderness on uncallused fingers.
lol yeah my bad i just realized i posted thathmmm...to me it seems to be the other way around. especially since acoustics have 4 wound strings as opposed to three.
icpurple...not to be a stickler, but you mean .009 right?
i would say get electric to start with, even though i started with acoustic for years. but to be honest its alot like car audio. its wht you like. the most expensive guitar ive owned was a paul reed smith ce22. i went into guitar center to buy a les paul, which was my dream guitar, but realized i didint like its feel. so i ended up with a prs.
if youre into metal dean and ibanez makegood entry level guitars. if into more alternative, blues, "mainstream" music then i would look at squier or epiphone.
but most importatnly go to a store with a huge selectin and dedicate a day to playing however many guitars you can and pick the one you like best. dont worry about brand. just bc you have a les paul, if you dont like it you wont play it.
good luck
