Guitar Players

Yeah, like No Limit said, the bigger the store is, the more likely they are to just want to make money off you and sell you the stuff that sponsors them. I get all my stuff from a little store called Woody's. They also have really good deals and let you test everything. And the people there are awesome.

You asked for our opinions,so heres mine.Starting with an acoustic will help you build strength in your hands. Will also help you develop your picking "attack",since you have to actually pick the note to make it sound right. Also, its less expensive to get an entry level acoustic...Maybe even an electric/acoustic.But you wouldnt need an amp to play.I have a few amps and guitars ,and I have played my acoustic more than any, because of the hassle factor involved with seting evertything up.And you cant take an electric into the bathroom.Great acoustics in a crap house for some reason.

The Squire set with guitar, amp, and gig bag was my first guitar. Its still works great to this day. As stated earlier they aren't the best guitar but for the money I think its one of the best entry level guitars out there. Also maybe for another choice look into epiphone. They are made by Gibson. Sorta like the Squire is made by Fender. Both are pretty good quality for the $$$. Good luck and have fun.

I was given probably the best advice by the guy at the music store.. Buy one that you love to pick up and look at. This way, you won't be able to put it down.. Worked out pretty good for me..

i picked up an ibenez xrp 17? or xtr 17? something with x in it. it was 5+ years ago. got it for ~130 from a local musicians store. spend under 200 for both amp and guitar. sold both of em though shortly after.

so what are you trying to say by that? you didnt like it? or you just didnt want to play anymore? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

eh i took lessons and just lost interest. i could only play 10 songs at most. never wrote my own shit. id love to play if i could learn in my sleep but i wasnt dedicated enough at the time.

Yeah, it really is just a good idea to start on an accoustic. Theres nothing wrong with it at all. Im sure almost every rock star has started on accoustic. You don't have to hassle with the electics of it, you can take it anywhere, the whole house doesnt hear your mistakes as you're starting, you build strength in your fingers and wrist, and you build the caluses on your fingers. And trust me, building the caluses is a pretty good reason. Electric guitar strings seem to be much harsher on the fingers.

word.

electrics seem to have smaller gauge strings. and after playing a while it can leave tenderness on uncallused fingers.

I would say to look at Ibanez, they have a line of guitars called the RG series and the bottom one is like one hundred and something and its actually a very nice guitar. Also look at Epiphone which is made by Gibson you could get like a lp special pack or an sg special pack for like 200 i believe. I have a dean zx classic if your interested hit me up with a pm and i can give you a price and some pics. But ne way Dean also has some good starter guitars. I also started on acoustic and have moved to electric some, but i rather play my Ovation Celebrity Deluxe which is an acoustic electric.

Well it all depends on the gauge you want to play at, electric can have some really big gauges and acoustic really small. On my Ovation i have extra light gauges which is the 0.009 gauge. It all depends on the sound you want and what ur comfortable playing as to what strings you get. Bigger gauges are usually. harder to fret than smaller ones

hmmm...to me it seems to be the other way around. especially since acoustics have 4 wound strings as opposed to three.

icpurple...not to be a stickler, but you mean .009 right?

i would say get electric to start with, even though i started with acoustic for years. but to be honest its alot like car audio. its wht you like. the most expensive guitar ive owned was a paul reed smith ce22. i went into guitar center to buy a les paul, which was my dream guitar, but realized i didint like its feel. so i ended up with a prs.

if youre into metal dean and ibanez makegood entry level guitars. if into more alternative, blues, "mainstream" music then i would look at squier or epiphone.

but most importatnly go to a store with a huge selectin and dedicate a day to playing however many guitars you can and pick the one you like best. dont worry about brand. just bc you have a les paul, if you dont like it you wont play it.

good luck
