Hi, Its Christmas time, and i had asked for a guitar for a gift, well i got it kind of.. ( in the form of money) my parents just told me to go out and get the kind that I want. the problem is ive never played guitar before and i have no idea what kind to get. learning to play has been something I have wanted to do for a very long time so I am very excited to start.

my question is what kind should i get, i dont want to spend too much over 300 bucks or so. Im not too much of an accoustic guy so im looking into electric. I dont want the cheapest bottom of the line guitar but i dont want the most fancy either, if you could help me with my decision I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks a lot

Of course, you cant go wrong with Gibson or Fender. Just stay away from that First Act stuff like you see in Target and Walmart. If your guitar shop sells reconditioned and used guitars, you could find a cheaper one of either or for around 250-300. Just depends on what they have in stock.

any particular model or anything? I see there are different size frets? whats that all about?

also how are peaveys?

Peaveys are ok. As for models of the Gibson and Fender, they are all good. Just make sure you get a six string and one that you like. Just dont expect to be able to get a Stratocaster or Les Paul for that price though. But there are plenty of other nice guitars.

Also, just ask the people in there and let them know what you are looking for and what type. They will be able to help you out a good bit more than I can. Im no expert, I just play a little.

Classic starter guitar is the Squire Strat. Could afford a guitar, amp, and cord if you get one of those. Not the greatest but you won't notice if you are new to playing anyways.

Squiers are meh, they're not known to be that great.

I personally started on acoustic, then moved to electric. Didn't enjoy acoustic all that much, but it helped my playing ability.I was a lot faster when I moved from acoustic to electric.

If you went electric, you'd need an amp to. Most beginner amps these days are fine, but like what has been said earlier, stay away from first act.

Your best bet would to go to a local store (guitar center, or any local music store. It's kind of funny, big stores will try to sell you mainstream, kinda like car audio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ) and play around with different guitars. If you have a friend that plays, bring them along to. Being new you won't know a whole lot of what is "good", but it's alright //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good luck.

Also, musiciansfriend is a GREAT place to buy from. Great customer service, and great great prices. That Squier pack sells for $350 at my local music store, and they are authorized distributors on all of their product.

Ibanez are nice, tried a schecter the other day and liked it. Jackson, and ESP's are also pretty nice. And yes, Squiers are meh, but for a beginner... That package has everything you need...
