Guess the Power

So I got my Arc Audio 4050XXK in yesterday. A quick look at the birth sheet, which is rated a 2ohms, gives 33% more power than its rated for. My question is, how much power can I expect at 4 ohms? Since the power isn't doubled from 4-2 ohms, Im not sure if its going to be 33% more as well, or if it will be more/less than that percent gain.

Specs:

55x4@4ohms

90x4@2ohms

180x2@4ohm bridge

From birthsheet:

Channel/Power

1/120

2/119

3/121

4/119

@2ohms.

Oh, and btw, my 1500XXK is rated almost right on its speced 500wx2 (498/499 actually), so not as overrated as I would have expected.

Judging by this KAr series test-

http://carsound.com/articles/publish/article_298.shtml

You are def seeing 70-75rms easy per ch @ 4ohm on that XXK, in the numerous installs I've seen w/ 4050's they've pushed 70-120rms Rainbows very strongly

My 1500D-R birthed in the 490ish per ch as well @2ohm stereo- All I know is that on 1ohm enhanced mode that power supply is in full swing delivering the most output- my guess anywhere in the 1050-1200rms

You've made two great choices there, these amps are sweet

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif Welcome to the Arc fam, I'm not alone ...hehe

Wow, those are really efficient at full capacity for class a/b amps at 70% ... Although the 1/3 efficiency is pretty low at 32% ...
Not bad at all, huh? I'm actually doing a KAR400.4 on my Pathfinder, you'd be surprised what dealers are selling these for- that MSRP on that site is review is bogus BTW - this amp is nearly identical to the Diamond Audio D3 400.4, another Zef designed product- Brad @ Arc mentioned to me once that all Kar series are at least 20%underated

Either way I calculate a ratio I get that it would produce 73.XXX watts. Not that Im too concerned, I should be getting in a 70-75w window anyway which isn't going to make a difference in output.

Im going to probably be running a set of Rainbow pro 3-ways off of the 4050, or if my deal falls through for that (read:I run out of cash), then im probably going to bridge the amp to a set of CDT HDs (2 or 3 way) or go with the Arc ACS 265 set you have as well (*cough* Rainbow anyway *cough*) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

And yes, that price for the KAR series is very bogus. I paid a lot less for my XXK, as you did on your amps as well I believe (I talked to you a while ago about Arc amps and components btw, don't know if you remember). I have quotes for about half of that Arc XXK and KAR lines (retail) which I posted here a while ago for Canadian prices (translated into USD), which are slightly higher than the USA pricing I believe.

Ahh... The Arc Audio Family. Thats a good family to be in already! And it should only get better as these things start to actually get some power to them.

ARC ACS 265 is definently the way to go. I just got the XXK4150 and the ARC (*cough* rainbow *cough*) ACS265 in my Scion tc. CDTs are great and all, but it's kinda nice having something of great quality that virtually no one else has (especially no one else on this forum, unlike CDT). I had the chance to listen to the rainbow pros vs. the ACS, and honestly, for the price, I thought the ACS were the better choice. Rainbows were great, but the difference in performance didnt justify the price increase in my mind.

As far as the amp goes, I was originally going to go with 4050, but then decided, wtf it'll be worth a few extra dollars. I thank myself everyday for stepping up.

Yeah, I was debating to sell the 4050 for a 2100, but decided to stick with the 4050. When I ordered for it, I figured I would be going with a Focal or JL Audio set, which have RMS figures in that range.

And the 4050 is already a step above what I was planning. Lets just say that you know you have offically tossed your budget out the window when you just sent money for 2 amps which are a total of 80% of that budget (this budget was to be for amps/subs/comps) :p

The only way Im getting the rainbows is if I decide to go for the super good deal (lightly used, from trusted source).

Think the ACS would be good with the 75w, or would they want a bit more? I know Dynaudio sets generally like more power than they are rated for. Im leaning for them a bit anyway, but if they want more power, then im probably going to bridge my amp to a CDT set. If I go with the ACS set, I can always use the other 2 channels to power a set of 4" (or 6.5's, right Max6spd?) if I want to go 3-way. No one I know has CDT, only a couple people I know with good systems, one with JL and another just got Focal (which is why I don't want to go that route anymore either :p)

CarlB, Rainbows are very efficient, you have plenty of power believe me- If you want to go 3ways and you want more power all you need to do is bridge the 4050 and send a nice 230+ rms to each side, let the crossovers worry about distributing the power- nice overhead there buddy IMO..... lol

My brother is running Rainbow Contours comps w/ a measly 40rms per side and its ridiculously loud and detailed

Seen it done, heard it done- nobody that has gone with a 4050 has complained about power, just expect to get awesome sound-if you have a weak link in your system in the end I highly doubt you'll be thinking of the amp-

Welcome to the Arc family CarlB !!
