Grounds?

Is it better to have my dedicated ground run come off the battery - or off of the engine block or does it matter? Should I ground each battery separate or is one ground coming off of one of the batteries to the chassis ok?

I ground the batts to each other with the first batt grounded to chassis or engine block, A ground to the batt would be better for the ground run but a chassis ground in the back would be shorter which is better so its a trade-off.

I have both grounds done, but just wanted to know which was a better ground for my dedicated ground run. I had this ground coming off of the batter in the front neg post, but I moved it to the engine block for some reason. I will move it back.
