Ground to switch

I think he ment just any old switch that can turn it of and on, by cutting the ground, ( I.e a toggle switch or something.)

Just Run a wire to ground, Run it into the switch, The run another wire from the other terminal on the switch to the pink/black wire. You can place the switch any were you like. and you can get them pretty much any were.

I am installing a Harmon Kardon drive & play to my Alpine head unit. I was told by the guys a Crutchfield that I have to take the pink w/black stripe wire and ground it by using a switch. After that he wasn't helpful. What is the switch, were does it go, and were can i get one? Thanks

ND
Yup, looks like they are recommending a simple SPST toggle or rocker switch...pink w/ black stripe on one terminal of the switch, the other terminal run a wire to ground...Radio Shack or any auto parts store will have the switch.

Assuming thats a double din unit the grounded switched wire would be for video veiwing, last i checked though most parking wires were green. Dont quote me though as i havent installed but a few DDs. Basically what you do is switch the wire on then off after the HUs on and you can veiw video. But the drive and play system is just an ipod adapter right?

the switch is for video viewing, wire them to any switch, (i have a rocker switch that i took out the keyhole in my glovebox and put the switch in there) I wouldnt make the switch super visible becuase if you get pulled over and they see the player and want to check it they wont see the switch to know that its not wired to the ebrake.

No its not a double din. Its an Alpine CDA 9807 and im hooking a harmon kardon drive & play to it. The guys at Crutchfield sold me the wire that hooks into the CD Port that adapts RCA cables. He then sent me an email explaining that i have to "set the receivers Audio Mute funtion to OFF, then connect the Pink / Black wire of the head unit through a switch to a chassis ground." why the hell is this so difficult?? am i just doing something wrong? Thanks for the replies and help.

Car audio man, car audio...it's always difficult! That is why we love it so much! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Well, then it would be grounded all the time...I don't think that is what you want. Dude, installing a switch is not that scary. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

i know its not that bad. im just not sure what the point is of having one. why do i need to have the option of turning it on or off? Thanks again guys.

correct me if I'm wrong.

It's a safety feature alpine has that doesn't allow you to play dvd's unless your car's e brake is enabled. The switch that you wire up to the ebrake with the switch will toggle it on to bypass that safety feature.

so it other words... no ebrake switch, no watching dvd's while your car is driving.
