Amps weren't the issue...definitely coming from the HU.

I installed a noise filter on the constant 12V power lead to the HU and that appears to have done the trick...I can barely hear the whine now and not at all when the truck is movin' down the road. I may still test wiring the 12V constant directly to the battery and see if that totally eliminates the whine but right now it seems quite acceptable.

Your saga is pretty disheartening. There has just got to be a solution that totally eliminates the noise/ whine. OEM stereos don't have it; What's their secret????

The OEM secret is that they are waaaaaaaaaaaay underpowered. Even with the "Bose" system in my '08 Silverado, the amplification in such a system is minimal at best.

The problem arises when we start adding 100W, 500W, 1000W+ amps into our vehicles. It's called an "amplifier" for a reason. It "amplifies" the signal. The noise was probably always there but the OEM HU was so weak you would never hear it. Add some aftermarket amps and let the whining begin!

Don't get too disheartened, I certainly was not. It's a common issue and there are very clear steps one can take to resolve it. I have since also placed a noise filter on the HU ignition line. I will also be performing the "Big 3" in a couple weeks, and any noise left is sure to disappear.

Right now, it is so slight I have to turn the volume way past what I would normally listen to my tunes at anyhow. And only if you are really listening, while the truck is at a stop, and no music is playing on the iPod source. And even then it is barely audible. More than acceptable IMHO.

Plus, issues like this keeps us busy messin' with the system...it ain't ever "done" anyways! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
