So I was looking for a winter car and found one that I wanted. http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=64232&cat=2
So I emailed him and this Is what he said
"i think 88k miles....i live in ashton,il....xxx xxxxxxx avenue ashton,il xxxxx mapquest it....i need this gone it is taking up my garage for my other projects, i love the car but i cant dump anymore money into it....if you *** look at it i know you would want it, it looks great with very minor issues a hundred dollars worse case scenario, im not trying to rip anybody off thats not my style i have plenty of money jus got my head on for another project right now.....txt me if you wanna know anything else for a quicker response at xxx-xxx-xxxx supposedly 3 people are coming this week to look at it..."
I thought that everything sounded good so I told the guy I'd come and get it with $1500 in cash. The next day he texts me and says that the car is on ebay and It'll cost $300 to end the auction so I should bring $1800 if I want the car. I said what ever I can't go any other time. (he lives 200 miles from where I live)
So we drove there to get it and when we got there it didn't have a battery in it and he made us uninstall the turbo timer that didn't work. It had almost no gas in it and the tires were almost flat. So we stopped at the closest gas station and filled up with gas and filled the tires. Then, still in the gas station parking lot, we see gas pouring out of one of the fuel lines. (he told us that there was a "slight" leak) I figured that was the minor issue it had. Then we start driving home and after only 120 miles I was out of gas and we had to stop. At that gas station I filled up and paid. When I walked out, there was coolant pooling under the car, It was spraying out of cracks in one of the hoses. I went in and bought 3 gallons of water just to get it home. when we tried to start the car, it wouldn't turn over. The battery was dead... so we drove to the closest wal mart and bought a new battery. That battery got us the last 80 miles back home. On the way to dropping my friend off, the alternator started to die and we couldn't get it to stay running. I ended up having to jump the car 4 or 5 times to make it there. On the last block, the car wouldn't start at all so we pushed it for maybe 500 feet to the guys house. So they get the alternator installed (cost me another $300) and drove it back home when it got back, there were flames shooting out from the fender. The fire got put out and the cam gear cover and timing belt were both badly burned. Now since we had to jump the car so many times, the new battery was toast. I'm out of money after all this and can't go get a new one. So my power windows are opened for the night, and it just started raining. I just sent the guy this email
"Yea your talon started on fire, some how oil got sprayed in by the cam gears and started the fire. The alternator was completely toast by the time we got home. One of the coolant lines had a bunch of holes in it and was spraying coolant all over the place. The "small" fuel leak you told me about was not small at all, It was literally pouring out the entire way home. I filled the tank at that Caseys place and after only 120 miles the tank was empty already. The battery that was in it died by the time we got that 120 miles and I had to buy a new one, which also is dead because we had to jump it several times to get back. So yea I'm pretty **** pissed right about now. I got completly ripped off in this deal and I think you should make up for it. Hundred dollars worst case scenario my ***!"
I'm waiting for his reply now. How much money should I ask for back? if he says he doesn't want to make it right, I think I'm gonna tell him I'll take it to small claims court. Any other advice for how I should try to settle this?
sorry for the long rant, but I'm really pissed.
:CLIFF NOTES: Bought a car from a guy 200 miles away. Was told the car was in excellent shape with only minor issues of less than $100. Got the car and it had a bad gas leak, bad coolant leak, the alternator died, two batteries died, and now the car started on fire. What should I do now?
