Got my first gun today.

Yeah, not a very common choice, but it's got some nice weight to it and feels nice in my big hand. And like I just said in my last post, the ammo is very cheap so it's light on the wallet for recreational shooting.
Im surprised the ammo is so cheap. Just watch the ammo you buy, a lot of 'surplus' ammo from the former soviet states tends to be very old and I would not trust it in a home-intruder type situation. If you want a home defense weapon, get the shotgun you mentioned, or buy another pistol that shoots more common rounds so you can buy new and reliable ammo for it. My home defense pistol always has (relatively) new hydroshocks chambered. Ive had/seen to many old rounds misfire to bet my life on one.

Cheap!? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif I think not...damn hard to find it over the past several years...and way more expensive. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

He said he gets it 1200 rounds for $100, that's cheap. Ive never purchased that ammo, so I dont know if the price is accurate or what it's availability is like, but I doubt RAM would lie and he sounds pretty confident of his answer. *shrug*

Well, yes, I suppose it may be cheaper considering it is 7.62 x 25. If he purchased something a bit more mainstream, say 9MM, .38, .357, .40, .45, etc. then it is definitely in the "not cheap" range, depending on what you can find. American Eagle for 9MM is fairly cheap, but still $14-$16 for 50 rounds. Plus it sounds like the cartridge he is using doesn't even allow for a lot of choices where he can actually use it due to the penetrating power. I'd have purchased something a bit more common, less hassle.

We bought a couple of big ol' "spam cans" that have ~18(don't remember exactly) boxes in them for $216.XX after tax...2.4k rounds total. We fired about 60 rounds or so a piece the other day and didn't have any issues with them firing properly. The only hassle is that these surplus rounds have some sort of corrosive agent in/on them so you need to clean the gun thoroughly after each session, otherwise you'll get rust build-up...but it doesn't take too long to do it.

It's easy to find when you have a local store who sells a ton of the CZ52's and Tokarev's, and it's cheap when you buy in bulk. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Right, no need to lie, we just bought the ammo the other day...it was actually a big reason why my dad tried it out in the first place a couple of months ago. That, and the fact that a few of his gun-nut friends who have 30+ guns were raving about it.

Ya, ok. Take a few rounds from that and see how you feel.
These rounds have some serious kick to them, I was surprised. FMJ too.

I'll just be carrying it in my truck and shooting it for fun at my parent's property...plenty of space there, and it's close.
