yeah, if you can prove its yours call the cops and tell them you found it on eBay...

my friend had his video camera stolen but it was signed by some famous skater so he found it on ebay, saw the sig, bid on it, and called the cops. He arranged with the seller that he would pick it up in person. Turned out it was a pawn shop and the police went with him and confiscated it and he got it back for free.

Not nessesarily, my buddy got his car broken into by some rookie. They couldn't get the deck out (we installed with screws, not quick release), and he stole the faceplate while smashing his front windsheild out of fustration.
