Got a free 15", need some advice

I was just given an oldskool rockford punch 15, and am going to put it in a firebird. Due to space constraints I was thinking going sealed was the best option. This area I'm working with only allows for a box thats 21x20x8, as I am terrible at cutting angles. Can anyone argue going ported with this little area? Or any other suggestions from those who have worked with firebirds in the past?

What angle do you have to cut? I think your missing a measurement. You list the measurement as if it's square, that's only 1.3 cu ft of air before port and driver so I don't think a 15" will work ported with those measurements.

(21-1.5)x(20-1.5)x(8-1.5) = 19.5x18.5x6.5 = 2344.875 cuin / 1728 = 1.357 CuFt

For a 15"?

You'll be lucky to have enough room for sealed, man. Sorry.

(You can get more space by using thinner wood. I factored in the "normal" 3/4" wood, however, that would make the enclosure weaker, thus flexing a lot more probable.

It's a 91'. Its square because I would like to keep it in the small storage hole so it fires to the rear...I'm not sure why but it seems like when i manage to fit a sub in there it gets quite a bit louder than any other spot. ie facing up.

Seal a board over the well in the hatch and down fire the sub.
are you on glue??

to the OP, if u **** and making angles, its time to bust out the fiberglass matt and resin!.IMHO the only ways to maximize space for something tricky like the well of a 3rd or 4th gen Fbody is to glass

No I stopped sniffing glue yesterday //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I did a kicker 15 like that in the well of a 86 camaro with a hifonic atlas amp years ago and it bumped pretty hard for a daily driver.

i dont under stand sealing off the well and down firing it. sounds like you put a peace of MDF over the well and inverted the sub

Yes that is what I did. If you placed a pack of smokes on the dash they would do flips. It was the simplest build I had in that car and was in the top 3 in sound. I was just throwing out something easy to do with a free speaker.

Yes you could build an enclosure that goes down in the well and slopes up against the glass with the speaker and port facing forward and it will hit really hard. But for someone that said he does not want to mess with cutting angles it would be worth him trying my suggestion.

What model Rockford Fosgate 15"?

If its the old DVC model from the late 90s (Pre HE2 and HX2s), then if you could sqeeze out enough room to give it 1.5 sealed, it would work well.

It's actually the oldschool punch model, it wont be seeing a ton of power. I am considering making the box an L shape with the top going over the gas tank to the back of the seat, this should make a large enough box, even ported. It would also allow for longer ports. I will be sticking with round ports on this one I believe haha.

dont use thinner wood. flexing wouldnt become more probable, it would be ridiculous. go with fiberglass, best way to make the best out of the space youve got. just like mentioned above.
