They do it on the main roads here but they announce it and put signs up. My stepfather said that they have to allow you the opportunity to not go through the checkpoint. Like it will be on a big main road but there's other side roads you can turn down to avoid it. IDK, doesn't seem to make a bit of sense to me so I agree, I think they're just profiling.
Yeah I have kind of mixed feelings regarding police. I like the idea of police but in reality most of the "services" they perform are not for the benefit of the community but the benefit of the treasury. Around here (a bigger city) they won't even come to the scene of a robbery. My car got broken into and I had to drive it to the station to fill out a report. Yet they have enough spare time to sit around running radar or talk to other cops (neither of which combat true crime).

I was trying to get home for a good nights sleep (Was leaving for vacation early the next morning). Was on top of the world, and wasn't thinking. I already have 2 points from an 11 over ticket from December of last year. 2 + 5 = 7 points. MD can suspend your license at 8-12. So basically, I have to pay this huge-*** fine in 30 days, then I'll probably get a letter from the MVA in a few months saying I have to take a 4 hour weekend driver improvement course due to my point load (which I'll have to shell out another $100+ dollars for). My insurance is probably going to double as well.
