Good tone to play for some nice excursion?

try 30 hz or something, no SSF. I don't think you'll unload that close to tuning, but it's still lower than tuning, so you should get nice excursion. If that doesn't work, try lower, but with less power. If your careful you'll probably know when enoughs enough

Well 30 Hz is really loud, didnt put it full blast because I dont want it to hurt my sub at all.

What is like the like the cutoff of a tone hurting the sub and not?

it depends on ur box and the sub. But most subs cant play notes below 20hz anyways.
