Good SQ 6x9

sq is NOT objective by definition.

sq and 6x9 is an oxymoron because a non-symetric speaker can not reproduce acousical information as well as a symetic speaker can. the slight difference in cone weight inherantly adds distortion. and for that reason, a sound quality 6x9 is just redundant.

you are WAY better off with a round speaker. coaxial if you MUST. (unless we are talking rear fill)

what do you recommend?

Have you guys heard the Focal 690CA? Boston's FX92? Boston's S953? McIntosh MSS472?

Thanks

if i were to use some coaxials i would either use diamond (have them in my boat, sound amazing, but i also have eight of them with a 1000 watt zapco amp and a zapco EQ) or i would use the pioneer tsd-170r's or i would use the zapco iforce coaxials.

I have BA S953 in the rear as rear fill/make up for my lack of a sub and for speakers they hit pretty good. overall its just a warm sounding speaker, i like it, they only take 50 rms though i believe or 45

a 6x9 cone is oval, not round, so, the g-forces of the oval cone being retracted into the frame, are going to deform it slightly, not only that, its going to deform irregularly to the rest of the cone, where as, every angle on a circular cone will contract together, making it more uniform and less distorted. also, a good amp will help out with distortion, but a 6 1/2" speaker will always have more potential to be more accurate than an 6x9. as for your question, for sheer SQ, boston acoustics is definately one of the dominant brands, pretty much every product they make in its respective class is at the top of the SQ list. can't go wrong with them.

the thing i found with the bostons is that they sound good but cant keep up with other speakers as far as loudness goes. good for a SQ system but not SQL oriented. i was out on the water the other day and this guy had a total of 12 top of the line boston 6.5" coaxials with i believe three JL 300/2's. thats 1200 watts with 12 6.5"s. my boat smoked the shit out of his with only eight diamond 6.5"s and a zapco 1000.4. the install was 100% the same. exact same speaker enclosures on the tower and same mounting in the boat.

mine was louder and it sounded so much better.
