Good Sound Quality, Affordable

I vote a single 12" or 15" to save money on multiple woofers and a decent amp (maybe mb quart' date=' aq, etc)Maybe a DC Level 3, Fi Q or BL for sub options.

You can use your 4channel to amp your components. just watch your gains. amps help speakers, even stock speakers, the end. too much power or clipping is what will kill speakers. 18rms from a headunit is not what those speakers want.[/quote']

i was waiting for him to chime in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

always gives great advice

So you have a 4 channel amp for the subs and your running the components off the HU? That's not right. Run the components off the 4 channel and get another amp for the sub. You're on track to a decent SQ set up. Personally I would go for one decent 12" and a decent amp to round out your system with your budget rather than 2 cheap subs and a knock off brand amp. I prefer SQ over crappy loud.

Exactly im much more worried about SQ rather than some sloppy loud stuff. So i need to use the current amp I have to power the speakers. What i heard about the amp blowing the speakers was a bunch of crap?

then ditch the sub or get a sub amp. You never run comps on HU power ESPECIALLY if sq is your goal.

depending on rms of the speakers and amps no you need to amp them. the deck will clip them to death and that will kill them faster than overpowering will.

just get 2 of these, had 2 hooked up to a cadence a7hc and they sounded amazing

or i can ship you a pair of phoenix gold rsdc 600rms subs for 150 great sounding subs.

i currently have 4 of these subs in my grand prix, in a ported box they sound amazing, but dont get the w3, just as good subs for better price out their. do some research. someone is selling some soundsplinter rlp for 150 on here, amazing sub.

I'll be kind and say he "over emphisized" the danger of blowing them. There certainly is no danger in blowing them off the HU amp, but they will never sound good either. That's like saying you shouldn't have a fast car because you'll get speeding tickets. Only drive a moped, so you won't get speeding tickets. Yes, you can blow them, but not likely unless you're a retard that turns it up to max, lets it distort and run it that way for a long time. I, and lots of other people here, run alot more power to our comps that you will.

A four channel on the comps and another amp for the sub is by far the best way to get to SQ. It will sound great. Maybe someday upgrade the front comps if you're not happy with them. I don't understand these people with giant, expensive, sub systems and crappy front speakers run off HU power. It sounds terrible. All they care about is people hearing their boom from blocks away, not how the music sounds in the car.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Good speakers, good amp power, good source sound and good install will sound good.

Is your budget still $400 for sub and sub amp? It sounds like others are suggesting to you $400 subs. There are plenty of $400 subs, but you still need a decent amp to drive them. That's more money.

If you budget is still $400 for both the sub and amp, that will work too, of course it won't be what has been suggested so far. I know the jetta has a small electrical system so you should get a class D sub amp. Look around at gear like this (this is certainly not the only set up that will work, you can spend hours looking at this level of gear, reviews and other threads of people with similar budgets to see what has worked for other people):

Dayton HO 12" sub, $138;

and a class D Kenwood 600 watt RMS @ 4 ohm amp, $250;

and you'd still have a few bucks for a wiring kit from Knukonceptz.

Build a good vented box from a plan on here out of MDF, lots of bracing, wood glue and some carpet; and it will sound great.

Thanks a lot thats a lot of help. I'm keeping the budget to $400 for the sub and sub amp just because i want to get it in now and will most likely upgrade later. Will the Dayton sub be loud enough? It looks like it gets great reviews from everybody. This seems like a pretty good setup.

Also, would it be smarter to build a box or buy from someone on here?

read that

if you ever refer someone to that site again i swear i will whois you and then find you and assrape your dog with your own mouth.

Yeah the guy who put the components in said I didn't need the amp because it would blow the speakers.
I wrote all that and you only got the power headunit part...

If your looking for Great sound quality, run active. Run your components off that alpine, they will sound a lot better!

ALL amplifiers have what are called gain knobs, they help you match your input signal in order for your amp to produce its rated power cleanly.

If you dont know what your doing, you can blow even the best speakers with the cheapest amp.

Watch your gains and you'll be alright.
