Good MP3 recordings?

hi i use DC++ to download my music, and i noticed some songs are ripped by those hacker groups - i know that because the filenames always end with the name of the group (such as rnz, elitegroup, eos, sns, etc..)

i ripped some cds i had and compared to these group mp3s and i noticed their recording are a lot more trebly (sometimes even too trebly to be bearable) and have gains higher... it's like the recording was made with +3db for all frequencies or something and the treble sounds a lot higher than the original recording... i know most people download from these groups and always say they have the greatest recording of all, but what's the real meaning of a good mp3 recording? i thought it was to keep as best as loyal as possible the music on the cd you are ripping off... is that it?

oh and i also noticed that i dont know why, but 192kbps mp3s mostly sound louder than 256kbps or 128kbps for example... 128kbps sounds boomier thou... hows that and why?

enjoying this thread, what's the best way to record my mp3s to always have the best quality?

Apple's Lossless Encoding is by far the best out there right now. It analyzes each song individually and only removes the frequencies that are not used at all.

So you still retain all the sonic qualities of the original recording with a bit smaller file.

does that make like a 16 meg file out of a 2 minute song?

Well say you rip it in full format (AIFF, WAV, etc) and the file is 16megs. In MP3 format the file size could be as little as 3-5megs. This encoder still retains full quality while still shrinking the file a bit, it's still bigger than an MP3 but smaller than the AIFF. Probably be around 10-12megs.

Apple released their own version of lossless codec (ALAC) simply to control the content of iTunes and to limit the ability to share. While ALAC is truly lossless, it is not as user friendly as FLAC or will it allow you to do what you want with the copies.

CDex is also a free program :p

but im interested now in discovering this one you're talking about... i may replace my CDex for it.. ill test it later dude... thanks a huge lot for advizing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

dude i downloaded both the program and the Lame codec from the site... it seems to be a very professional program and i like that, but when i click to record on MP3 it insists to record only in WAV...

what do i have to do?

what do i have to do?
I am assuming that you have downloaded the Nero DLL from the site and have placed it in the correct location:

C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy

That is the same place you put the LAME encoder. Fire up EAC and in the upper left you will see your CD Rom drive with something like “Adapter x: ID: x”. Match your drive with the correct profile from the site and place that file here:

C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\Profiles

Then fire up EAC again and select the profile from the drop down at the bottom of EAC. That will configure EAC correctly for you. Place a CD in your drive then go:

Alt+G will select freedb to get the CD info, make any corrections you have to (freedb is notorious for misspellings) Then you want “Edit > select all”, then hit the MP3 button.
