Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I just ordered my CMPX215 yesterday and then I started thinking how I was gonna fit it in the trunk my Civic. I had an Idea...you know how the seats come down so you can see the inside of the trunk from the drivers seat? Well I was thinking about istalling a peice of carpeted wood right there under the 6X9s then installing the sub right there using the trunk as the box. I know I might need to dynamat everything.

what do you think? Will sound like crap even with Dynamat?

that is called free-air.....
no, its called infinite baffle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and the way you have it designed, bad idea. you can kiss those 6x9's goodbye, the pressure will most likely cause them to fail. i think you will be better off just going with a simple sealed box, or some type of traditional box. thats just my oppinion though

edit-- **** you jack frost :p

Not quite //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

IB depends on total seperation of the front and back waves...while true free air setups have a 6dB/octave loss and require large front baffles to overcome this...

well see the thing about the sealed box is that....it might not fit. The CMPX215 needs a huge sealed box (according to some) and if the 6X9s would suffer then I could jes remove them and seal the holes like Jack frost and be done with it yeah?

Plus if I DID get a sealed box it would have to be custom. guess I would jes face it towards the front of the car rather than the back right? the store guy said it was B-A-D if I face them towards the back and the bass bounces off the rear and back at the subs.

Ignore the store guy;)

Running it IB, you would need to seal of the entire trunk area. This is a lot of work. If you are not up for the labor keep your original design. But have the sub in a sealed box. So you would just build it in a sealed box and attach a baffle board to look like your pic.

Just a idea.

IB can be challenging, but if you up for it do it.. And the guy that told you not to face the subs towards the rear is an idiot. Build yourself a nice sealed box.
Ok so the sealed box looks like my safest (and cheapest) bet. But then this brings up the question...what would be the difference between facing towards the front than faceing towards the back? Sticking the sub w/box in their will pretty much take over the trunk and you'll have this sealed area between the front of the sub and the back of the trunk
