Hey yall, just became a member! I have been on the site several times, and am looking forward to talking sound!

I would love to see pix of your single 15" setups!

My question is this:

I am buying a 15" Power Acoustik MOFO 154X. I have a 1000w Insignia amp. I will be building a box. Is this a good subwoofer? What do you recomend for a first time box builder? Should I go with something else? I am limited on my $$, so, this looks good, TO ME! I'm not a TOTAL noob, but I LOVE to learn!

Thanks for the input!

Jay

The new power acoustik mofos are made cheaper than the previous models.

I owned 2 12s of the previous models when I was 17. I had them for 2 years. My older brother had a mofo 12 that lasted 6 years. Would have lasted longer. But he sold it to his buddy. Who sent a harsh clipped signal to the sub and fried the voice coils.

If your heart is set on mofos. Try finding the previous models.

Otherwise why not shop used. You can find something far better.

You do realize that amp is only rated to do 320 watts bridged mono...that is all you will get out of it. I would recommend a Sundown E 15 for anybody looking for good bass with @ 600w or less to play with....until a better $100 sub comes along that will handle the power.

Was stationed at Corry Field at the DoD base, lo, these many moons ago.

Heard that the Pencil Cola titty bars nearly went out of business after me and my crew left, and that the city PD had to lay-off about 1/2 dozen officers, lol.

You have gotten good advice about spending time looking around and researching before you buy; going used to get better bang for ur buck; and that there are much better offerings than what you are thinking.

But, what are you looking for outta your system?

I am looking for slamin' bass. I want to keep it under $200. If anyone could throw up a ebay example of something either new or used, that would be GREAT! Like I said, tuned and ported box, with that 15", and the specs on my amp are 500w rms, I THINK it will bang, but I really don't know! :/

500W to a 15 ain't much, guy.

And $200 isn't going to go far , if you're talking about that for a 15, an amp, and a box..... hopefully ur talking about dropping two Bennies on just the speaker.

Which, BTW, you'd be better off with 2 12s than 1 15, if you've got the space

I am well aware that 500w is not much for a 15". What would you recomend?? I am using the $200 on the sub, and have other doll hairs for the rest of the setup. What 2 12's would be good at 500w?? I really don't have the monies to dump into speaker AND amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

well, the only insignia "1000 watt" I could google was a 2 ch amp rated at 320 watts rms bridged to a 4 ohm load, perhaps you can shed some light on yur "500 watt " amp?

Im sorry, I believe you are correct! I was TOLD 500w, the amp is Insignia NS-A1000...i believe 320 is correct. So, with that said, what could I run off that, and still really beat?? Or COULD I?

I hear ya.

I am the wrong guy to talk to, tho.... I'm the "do it once, and do it right" type, so I would advise you to save your money, do your research until you have at least another $500 saved, then get the correct amp, subs, and enclosure for ur vehicle and ur goals.....and I know u don't want to hear that, lol.

Sundown makes shweeeet subs and amps, but ---- even used ---- ur not gonna get there on the cheap
