Good Circular Saw ~$100

if box building is something you'd like to do on a regular basis, don't even waste your time with a circular saw. for what you'd spend on a good saw that will actually last more than a few runs thru a 3/4" sheet of MDF, you could put another $50 in and get a cheap table saw. even the contractor grade table saws with the collapsing legs are more accurate and make cleaner cuts than a circ. saw.

heh, try to handhold a dado through a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" ply...or try to do any sort of bevel work on trim...table saws have their place, definitely.

as for circ. saws, i've had good luck with my porter cable, haven't killed it yet, and i've done a lot to it. i can also vouch for makita, hitachi, milwaukee...own tools by all of them, and they've all worked perfectly.

i'd always wanted to see someone build a box out of oak or other finishable hardwood, and mortise-and-tenon the joints together. Finish it with a light stain or something. That would be sweet, especially for a HT setup. Make the subwoofer cabinet better than the furniture in the room.

I'd do it except I can't afford the wood right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

table saws are a waste of money. Now if you got an Industrial saw that would be different.

a circular saw with a T square is better any day for cutting boxes.
You're telling the guy who builds 5-10 boxes a day what tools to use?

Bish Plz.

If you had any idea how to actually USE a table saw, you'd probably have great end results....God knows I do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Nothing against table saws but unlike circ saws, not all table saws are the same. Dont tell me youre gonna buy a $99 Ryobi benchtop table saw and get clean cuts out of it. You cant guide a 4X8 piece of MDF on one of those things without 6 extra hands. A professional table saw is a different story but thats a couple of grand. Id rather spend my money on a t square and circ saw, and a belt sander incase im having a bad cutting day.

Yeah I really don't wanna get a cheap table saw... I just want a good quality circ. saw that'll make the long straight cuts faster than my jigsaw. I'll probably only be making at the most 1 box a month...
