Thinking of picking this up. This would be replace my 6 year old desktop, which is a KT3 mobo with 1gig of ram and a FX5200 card, 50gig hd, so I'm not going to spend more than $300. Any thoughts on this? Comparable deals?

*Added Cpu fan (doesnt come with)

*Added optical drive

*Added 1gig ram (would have 2gig total)

*Can throw a PCI express card of my choice in at a later time.

*Theres a $20 mail in rebate on barebone kit, $10 mail in rebate on ram.

just a heads up- that power supply probably will be terrible.
Yeah, I realize the ones that come with the cases kinda ****. Like I said, looking for something to replace my current pc listed above with modest boosts in performance. Also, be nice to have something to take with me to school.

me personally i'd choose corsair ram or some ram of higher quality. Definatly get a diff power supply. decent processor, i run one myself. am i blind or am i not seeing a mobo?

all in all looks like a pretty decent system

It's barebone kit. Comes with the mobo+cpu in the last item there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Nothing wrong w/ Crucial, IMO. And, yes, there's a motherboard (PC Chips A13G+).
He is missing an operating system ... and I definitely would invest more money into a better PSU ...

Looks like a pretty crappy system to me, but it could be worse ... It could have a POS Celeron CPU paired w/ a shitty SiS motherboard ...

im just saying for basic use nothing fancy its not a bad system. no where near a gaming rig or anything like that.

as for the ram, i've never used them so i was simply stating whats worked well for me. i missed the barebones part, one of those days.

Consider what this is replacing...MSI KT3 Mobo, 1gig reg ddr ram, 50gig HD, AMD Athlon 3800+ (bout 2.4ghz), Asylum FX5200 AGP card

X2....Plus if it turns out bad you can always RMA it and get new RAM with their lifetime warranty.

If I were looking for a budget PC I'd get a e2140 or any e2xxx, a decent p35 mobo to OC the chip beyond 3ghz(the stock cooler will get you here), some Crucial Ballistix, since they are so cheap now, and a 400w PSU by any reputable company(Corsair,Silvestone,Enermax, etc.....).You can manage that well under $300. You can get a cheap $30-50 case that will do just fine. The rest is relatively inexpensive...

maybe its just me but i like the idea of picking up a laptop for $500 when they're on sale. they are pretty darn fast, and you can use them as a desktop. in fact, im using one right now.

$500-700 to me is good budget when it comes with all the gizmos, like good storage, lots of usb ports, lots of ram and double layer dvd burners.

I have a Dell D600 laptop I bought used for $280 a year ago. It's 14.1 inch, mobile 2.0ghz, 1gig ram, 40gig hd, 32mb ati integrated graphics and CDrW burner drive. I think it's fast as hell. Great for internet/email/older games.
