Good basic home theature set up

Ok, so I bought my parents a 52" Samsung LCD for christmas. They're going to mount it to the wall and they want to go out and buy a surround system. I dont want them to buy something shitty from circut city, so i figured I would help them out and ask you guys. They said they either want a 5.1 or 7.1.

The room is 15'x25'

I want to know what what receiver we should get and what line of HT speakers would be efficient with that space, as well as send the best. Budget is ~800-900$
