Good amp in 300 - 400 dollar range?

Hey everyone,

Im in a little situation here.... ZED no longer makes the draconia amp that I was going to use to power my system.... 6.5 comps up front, stock fills, and a JL stealthbox with a 10". I wanted ZED for quality and performrmance, overated channels, and a low THD under .05 %.... I need good replacement ideas...

I want the low THD because Im using the stock radio in my 00' silverado... Im using a hi/low converter, and Im a little concerned about the voltage being under 2 volts.... so I need a GOOD/CLEAN amp to clean up the signal or keep the distortion low.... Any Ideas? my price range is 300 to MAX 425 for a 4 channel minimum 70-75 whats a channel... prefferably 2 ohm friendly as well...

So you're trying to basically use a 4 channel to run all of your door speakers + bridge the rear for your subs?

Why not buy a Kicker 550.3 or a 5 channel amp?

thats exactly it... just want an all around good amplifier.... Is it really really clean? and 5 channel? explain... Im pretty new to all of this... If Im thinking what you're thinking, I only need the fronts and the sub bridged... the rear fills Im leaving on the stock radio, I dont want to blow em.... Im not familiar with 3 or 5 channel...

Have you looked at a Zapco Ref360? A lightly used one is in your price range.

FWIW, THD is a fairly meaningless figure, as it doesn't differentiate between even and odd-order components. As such, two amplifiers with identical THD specs can produce alternate sonic characteristics. I don't think that shooting for a given THD spec will necessarily accomplish your goal.

That's the magic question, isn't it? Spec sheets provide so little information of relevance that relying on them is an exercise in futility. Unless you're willing to buy several amplifiers and listen to them for yourself, you'll have to reply on a trusted recommendation and/or your own gut feeling. As you were interested in a Zed, the need for quality narrows the field down considerably. Personally, I've auditioned dozens of amplifiers and found a few that I liked.
