hey guy's hope you can help me with my big problem !

I have a 10" jL sub installed in a box thats installed in the rear trunk of my bike. The problem is it doesnt pound like it should. I have it powered correctly and here is what I have found. I pull the box out and set it in my truck while it is still wired to my bike and the sub pounds !!!! move it to my bike and it sounds blahhh ... Im thinking the sub needs somthing like a band pass encloser to work right in free air type setup on my bike .

what are your thoughts ?

please help ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif going crazy trying to get this right .....

When you put it in your truck the air in the cabin is able to be pressurized. When its on your bike its not able to pressurize the air cause its outside. Its like playing a sub free air then playing it in a sealed box. Thats just the way it is.

the speaker is in a sealed box and the front of the bike box is cut out and the speaker is basicly free air pointed forward.

it has somthing to do with pressure not loading the speaker. would a bandpass enclosure work better ? or what would you think would work better ?

So you do have it vented to the outside world, OK. Next step is going to be getting the enclosure right. In an open air environment a sealed box usually won't cut it. Ported is the way to go. The problem then is that you probably aren't going to have room for the box as it will most likely need to be bigger than the trunk on the bike. A band pass might work OK but it will most likely need to be even bigger than the ported box.

#1. Why a goldwing? Get a miata. Same price, same feel. But safer.

#2. Does your bike sound like shit to where you need loud music to cover it up?

#3. I think its retarded hearing people pull up on those things with music BLASTING out of it like its cool

#4. Earphones inside the helmet works AWESOME.

Come on...

1. Maybe, but gayer..

2. Yes, it's a Honda Goldwing. I don't know of anyone who puts an exhaust on their Goldwing.

3. I'm with ya.

4. Illegal in most states, not that anyone cares.

I don't ride a Honda, but I listen to my exhaust when I am on my bike. That way I can hear the idiots in cars not slowing down.

I don't know about retarded. Impractical definitely. I quite enjoy the stereo on my new bike actually. Headphones are illegal in most states and they greatly detract from your awareness of what is going on around you. Since that awareness is the only thing keepin you from becoming street pizza, it's probably a good idea to maintain as much of it as possible.

I listen to my ipod through my headphones. On my bike (CBR1000RR) i'd be lucky to find room for a single 3 inch speaker, much less a sub.

I agree though, bass is pretty silly on a bike. Not only that, but how much weight did you add, and how high? That's got to throw off the handling quite a bit. You may end up with the only goldwing that can wheelie though. I would also be concerned that buffetting from the wind over the port, or whatever is exposed to the outside world would drastically affect sound while you are moving.

We're talking about a 'Wing. You know, a car that's missing two wheels. The sub isn't any different than a passenger as far as weight goes. Bike's made to ride 2-up with stuff for a week in the luggage. Weight wouldn't be my concern. It will still be pretty much impossible to get satisfying bass on the bike especially at speed.

all right I will try to ignor the ignorant.

please withhold your coments if not adding to the topic .

is there any web sites I can look at band pass type designs or how to's for building a box.

p.s. I have the best quality sounding goldwing I have seen to date. Im not into pounding rap muisic at stupid levels. I enjoy great music and like it to sound awesome !

Honestly, I don't see any choice but to go sealed. You may want to try something like a IDQ 12 or 15. Small box, big speaker. Fiberglass the box inside the compartment, and mount the sub to the bottom, through a hole in the compartment.

Displacement is your only hope.

monkey thanks for the reply .. Im haveing a little trouble understanding the type of box your trying to have me build . please exspain it better or show me some type of pic thanks a lot ....
