Gold plated vs. Platinum plated?

all parts that are made of copper HAVE to be plated in order to prevent oxidation. bare copper will quickly turn green and deteriorate, plating keeps that from happening. gold VS platinum? i say what ever you think looks better, i don't think the difference in resistance will affect your system at a detectable amount.

Different brands site different reasons for soft metal plating. Back when gold-plating stereo terminals was just becoming 'in' companies said it made a better connection because the soft metal would 'conform' to the opposite end of the connection, some companies say gold is a good conductor.

I'm guessing they're all just bs. A good connector's gonna be better than a bad connector, doesn't have anything to do with it being gold or not

There really is a difference in conductivity of the metals, despite what everyone here is saying. First, the man who said that you need a coating to prevent oxidation is absolutely correct - strip it down to the bare metal (generally copper) and you'll get oxidation which heavily affects the conduction.

Between platinum and gold, you will not notice much of a difference when talking about the perfromance of an amp or dirtro block. Platinum is technically better though, less resistance.....

i dont know if its right or not, but it makes sense, yota told me something else. something like the pltinum corrodes quicker or some shit.

Plating is to prevent corrosion and oxidation. And for anything in a corrosive enviornment (such as a car), it is a major benefit and something you want to have. The small decrease in conductivity between gold and copper isn't worth the large increase in possible corrosion/oxidation. And, as linked, Gold > Plat as far as conductivity is concerned.
