going subsonic

personally i will never lift another jeep to save my life. i had 15 inches of lift on that jeep and well it was way too much. never again.

im a die hard minitrucker. i wanted to see what it was like to be that high. It was either slammed in the dirt or jacked up to the sky. I prefer my pebble pusher!

ok guess i know what i need to do now. i pretty much figured out what i would need. But the factor is going to be the vehicle though. So the plan is to use aero ports so i can tune on the fly.

subsonic technically means slower than the speed of sound. Infrasonic is technically the word you're looking for. We have lots of people doing some serious SPL's down to 10Hz in home theaters with IB subwoofers. http://www.aespeakers.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1624 Look around on the forum for a few others also, but his has measurments.
In a vehicle it is much easier. You have a lot of extra cabin gain to work with meaning you need a lot less power and displacement. This Escort for example has around 35dB of cabin gain at 10Hz with all windows up:

It doesn't take a lot to hit some high levels at 10Hz with that kind of gain.

well what other options are there for going the route i wanna go? I honestly dont know of any other subs out there that can do what the LMS does. Maybe the XXX??? The way i look at it though 2 18's of just about anything is gonna have quite a bit of SPL. Its not always about how much power you wanna throw at the woofer. I personally think 2 LMS' on roughly 3k a piece would do the trick.

Once you get up to an 18 (motor wise and built with similar materials) it pretty much doesnt make too much of a difference what you buy. The problem ive always had with anything TC makes is design flaws and quality of parts. I ended up going with RD SHW's (which are atomic APXX with different soft parts, and more spiders). I knew if I stuck with SJA I could get parts easily for years to come since us stupid SPL guys cook coils sometimes.

So its down to what ya feel like ya want buying since they pretty much do all the same and take the same amount of power. How they "sound" at this point has alot more to do with how your enclosure is designed.

i get what your saying. The main reason i was looking at the LMS was due to the fact of the high xmax with low distortion which will help on the low end. I honestly dont feel like spending 2k on woofers if i dont have too. If i could do the same thing with say some HDC3's then maybe i would go that route. I ran an HDC3 15 for quite a while and i enjoyed it but i dont want to be plagued with noises and ripped spiders all the time.

Welp, take a look a the RD shw 18's, the APXX 18's, RE SX 18's, or RE MT 18's. I dont think you'd be dissapointed with any of them, all take abuse pretty well.

Ok thanks for the tips there snoop. Gonna do some tracking on some of the subs you listed. I know they are all great subs also. i guess now everything lies in the hands of how the box is designed.
