going subsonic

subsonic technically means slower than the speed of sound. Infrasonic is technically the word you're looking for. We have lots of people doing some serious SPL's down to 10Hz in home theaters with IB subwoofers. http://www.aespeakers.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1624 Look around on the forum for a few others also, but his has measurments.

In a vehicle it is much easier. You have a lot of extra cabin gain to work with meaning you need a lot less power and displacement. This Escort for example has around 35dB of cabin gain at 10Hz with all windows up:

It doesn't take a lot to hit some high levels at 10Hz with that kind of gain.

Our ears can't physically hear it, but we can feel it through bone conduction. Much of our low frequency "hearing" isn't heard through the ear canal. Plug your ears when at a fireworks show. The low frequency information is still there.

ive always prefered to tune low personally.

My plan is to(assuming i can get my hands on 1 or 2)run 1 or 2 lms ultras 18's.

put them in roughly 9 cubes and tune in the 20's

Good example of this can easily be seen in the wall in my Jeep. Even with the subsonic filter on some, while playing Sarah Mclaughlin's "River" (which is compeltely voice and piano only song) you can actually tell that the piano is a precussion instrument. You dont hear the wave as much as feel it. Its very odd to initially hear a piano peice like that on some 18's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

basically what i am after. snoop i know you hate TC but you think 2 lms ultra 18's in 9 cubes tuned to say 25 hz is gonna do the trick? remember the 18 has an fs of 19hz.

Yeah, it is much easier in a car. Home audio guys struggle with huge boxes and long ports to bring sub 30hz up to the same reference level as the rest of the music. It's not uncommon to see tuning in the 15hz range for HT setups. In a small car you can tune to 30hz and still get an F3 at 20hz. Imagine what tuning at 20hz would do.

Deep infrasonic bass is just one of those exhilarating experiences that can be very fulfilling. 150db at 50hz is sure impressive, but you really appreciate the air moving power of 120db at 20hz.

95 grand cherokee.
