going 3-way?

just bought the germ and the iridium, and then i realise i still got room to buy the powerline or the profi line. i want to stick with a 3-way system, any suggestion on which tweeter/midrange/midbass to use?

since i havent buy the powerline or the profiline, the only setup i can think of is using the iridium midbass driver and midbass crossover then connect to the germ midrange and tweeter and germ crossover. is that ok considering the iridium and the germ have different rms.

or should i get the powerline or profi for the midbass and use the iridium midbass crossover?

anybody else got other opinion?

ps: when u run it as 3-way, what will the best power u will be feeding them?

i'm so confused on what you are going to do. if you are going to spend all that money on nice component sets, i'd might as well go active and so you can have ultimate ability of controlling each speaker hence better tuning options. or you can just stick to a simple 2 way passive setup. i've never heard the germanium but i've heard the iridiums. but i'd still say sell both and just get the powerline, lol.

as for the item i have bought... yeah... i would love to try to be active... unfortunately, i know nothing about it... as for selling both set, it's quite a bad idea here in brunei coz there is actually almost zero market for high-end component here... and to ship them outside asia is very expensive and i can't guarantee the safety of the sets, coz there will be transit on singapore then dubai then rest of the world... so i'm thinking of keeping them and trying to add the powerline series OR the profiline series... but i guess it will be fun trying to mix and match the component though... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

oh btw... the iridium i have is a 3-way component (8.3i)... they have two crossover, one is connected to the midbass and another crossover for the midrange and tweeter... so i was planning to get the iridium midbass and its crossover and connect them to the germs crossover to make it a 3-way set... is it applicable?

it'll work but to me BUT mixing and matching crossovers probably isn't best because those crossovers are designed to go with the speakers that came with the set, not some other speaker.

what speakers comes with the iridium set?

well if you going with a 3 way front stage, it's preferred to get either the p9 combo or h701 combo as you have complete control over each speaker. but you can use a combination of that 3 way crossover along with a passive crossover to make it work.

That would pretty much mean going active. Which I did.

The Iridium midrange has it's own bandpass crossover, the other crossover does tweet and midbass.

It is a strange configuration, but seems to work. If you are using the crossovers and no bass driver connected to the crossover you need to disconnect the jumpers to keep from damaging your amp. (at least that's what they say).

As for which ones to use, if you are running them passive I would keep the drivers matched to their respective crossovers.

I would listen to each set, decide which one you like better and install it in the front. If you want to install the other set - I don't really know what you would gain.

If I were going to install more than one set of speakers I think Ideally I would want 2 sets of the same speakers so that the different speakers would not cause strange coloring, or cancellation.

I like the DLS speakers, but I have never heard the Rainbows. I suspect that if you could get the higher line Rainbows you would be happy. You could sell the other speakers on E-bay - maybe even on this forum. I don't know what it would cost to ship from Asia.

Do what I do - pick the stuff you like less and install it in someone elses car, like your wife, or brother.

You seem to be willing to spend some money to try things out - I think I would spend some time over at DIYmobileaudio.com, and buy speakers from madisound or partsexpress. For what you are spending on multiple rainbow sets, and DLS Ir8.3 you could try out the best of the DIY parts.
