GM Harness and AVN6600 = no room

The wiring harness for my Tahoe is similar to this: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Metra-OnStar-Compatible-Wiring-Harness-GMOS04-/sem/rpsm/oid/134989/catOid/-13118/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

My AVN6600 is always a ***** to get back indue to the lack of space between this and my IPOD adapter. I am going to relocate the IPOD adapter to help. IIRC, the wiring harness only uses the RCA's from the HU as it's only connection, the power and ground are seperate. So it shouldn't be a problem to relocate that ****ing box somewhere else in the dash away from the HU mouting location correct?

There a ton of room behind the dash... move the harness towards the back, either to the left or right, sometimes you might need to cut the bracing behind the deck. You can even remove your speedo/tach to get more room

I have taken some of the bracing off, but the main pillar behind the HU is still there. It looks like it provides support for the dash. Is that what you are talking about removing? (It is about 3 in wide)

um, whats the point of an ipod adapter if you have rca plugs in the back of your radio anyhow? your basically wasting money, a normal cig light charger would've been much MUCH cheaper.....but ok.

anyhow, must **** to not have room...i could fit 2 double din hu's in my dash //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Being able to control your ipod thru your deck is a pretty nice feature to have, I hate having to **** with an ipod while driving.

how are you going to attach that wiring harness to the avn6600? will you have to cut off the white piece or what?
No, the gm harness is different than the on for your VW (I think that was you). Cut the white harness off of yours, wire the AVN harness to it and you are good to go.

all you gotta do is just hook power and ground into the radio's harness, and then put it wherever the hell you want to. It ain't difficult. Just put it behind the glove box or something. Then, you just gotta run the connections back to the radio.
I am going to take a look at that tonight. Thanks for the tip.

x2

Yeah there is a ton of room in that dash, you just have to remove a little bit of the bracing to get to it. believe my I have an 04 silverado with that same harness.
It should be the same. I have removed some of the bracing, but there is a vertical support brace directly behind it. Can I take a chunk out of that without any repurcussions?

i guess if you drive around alot by yourself that would be a problem? i've got a couple of playlists on mine that i know i won't tire of the songs while its playing, because none of them repeat.
