Getting Speakers to fit in a 93' Taurus?

Hey guys, heres the problem:

I bought some CL-62i's for my front speakers and some CL-6x's for the rear. The CL-62's are too deep to fit in the front doors because they rub on the window. The CL-6x's arent as deep and they will fit but the stock mounting bracket is too small so I couldnt get them installed either. I dont want to have to get rid of these speakers because they look great and I'm sure they will sound great too. Does anyone know of some custom modifications I can do to get them to work, or some equal quality speakers I ould buy that would fit if theres not a way to get the CL's to work.

Thanks for all the help guys!

cut some wood and fabricate a spacer\bracket

its not to hard. make a template with some cardboard then make it into wood- use this bracket to lift the speaker out of the factory hole maybe 1\4" AND use the bracket to attach it firmly to the factory mounting location AND dampen the sound at the same time.

1\4" mdf panel

screws

cardboard

marker

jigsaw

drill w\ phillips head and 1\2" hole-bit (or whatever size you have-to make the cutting hole)

its really common sense. you need to fabricate a new 'plate' to fit the new speaker in the old location.

//edit

this will aid you visually - its quite simple if you think about it.

ya know... i have got just the modification for you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif . i just did this to my '03 ford taurus. it is a 2+ inch build out of the front doors to fit a pair of 8" drivers. the fiberglass is unfinished because i had to leave home and go back to school. but you can see what i had to do to complete this modification.

oh yeah, and YGPM //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

wow, that looks like a lot of work! Req, I dont think you know what the door panel of a 93' looks like, I will get you some pictures when I get home. There is no room and more than half of the speaker is concealed behind the dash when the door is shut....I would like to get away from this horrible design and I didnt know if the only way to do so was to put them on the floor?

I was considering replacing my 6.5" speakers on the front with some Clarion 4"s with some pre-fab. Putting them on the floor is ill advised. Putting them on top of the dash, however, could be achieved pretty easily, IMO.

why not mount them on the floor, because they will get stepped on or because they dont sound good? Also, I dont know where there is room to mount them on the dash...I will get pictures in a little bit.

Let's hear supa's idea though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/idea.gif.5acb6a39a9b92425414c316dda202bad.gif

Bah.......that's the easy route. Supa, step up to the plate and help the man build some kicks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well, he is getting a preowned car in 6 months. I think

It seems like a waste to me,

he can make some kicks in his new O.G ride //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Here are some pictures I just took, they show the dash and door panel:

Here is the dash and passenger door, you can see how little of the speaker is exposed...

Wow........horrible factory locations.

My honest opinion, and what I would do if I were you.............hack off the map pocket, but a hole in the lower front of the door panel, cut a hole in the inner metal door panel and make a nice (cosmetically) speaker baffle out of MDF and mount the speaker in the lower door. I know.......it sounds like a lot of work and sounds like you'd majorly fuck up your door panel, but if you plan carefully and take your time you will have good results and finish the job in one weekend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I recently did that exact thing to my buddies truck, and IMO it turned out damn nice.

do you have some pictures, Im not sure I have the experience with metal to do this and I dont know what I can get rid of and what I cant without ruining something?

And I forgot about the trash can being in the way when I took the picture, call the number and complain they arent picking up your trash out there in Cali even thought you are signed up and paying for service supa!
