getting into HT ?

i guess its goning to be more for movies, but im less intrested in the picutre / tv.

i guess im starting at the wrong end, i should be starting with the reciever. i have an idea of using a car sub for the HT, checked out parts express for plate amps. they have a datyon 250ish amp for about $110 atm. The sub boxes are intresting, i need more info about them. as far as recievers, i plan on hitting up some yard sales this summer, hopefully find something in the 100+ maybe even 120+, 5.1, anything but sony.

checked out a friends setup, learned that you can just use bookself speakers for the rears, so save some money there. wondering what kind of box or even speakers to use, espically for the center channel.

as far as subs, i wanna use my Kappa perfect or a treo TSX or TSI. ive heard people using the infinity sub before. and the treo, i love my treo in my car, but my ssi isnt efficent enfough for home audio. plus a 750 watt sub would be kinda extreme in price and for my application.

i started searching on parts-express cause i was looking for plate amps. i think ill hit up diy next. any other good places to check out. ive got a HT shop near by, ill have to take a look in the next few days.

thanks.

If you're serious about the sound, skip the receiver and go with a separate multichannel amp and processor. Figure out what you can spend on speakers - going DIY will help out the budget.

dunno if you will find a good receiver at a yard sale, youre likely gonna want one with hdmi inputs, nothing wrong with a sony receiver, they make great ones. I have a couple 18s for sale that would work great on a 1000w plate or rack mount amp

i like avsforum and hometheatershack

They've got some cool build logs to browse:

a lot of people are digging the ep2500. seems like a bunch of power for HT setups. (2x 1200 at 2 ohms or 2400 @ 4 ohms)
if you can get a bigger budget i would definatly do that. 2 18 Qs off one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/drool.gif.b5e863e893038027711d4402f340dad0.gif

then again i think the ep4000 is only like 100$ more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

EP4000 came out just after I bought the 2500. Haven't seen test on the 4000 yet.
ep2500 and ep4000 are the exact same amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

that pisses me off that behringer uses some really seedy business practices just to try and make a sale.
