Getting horrible "rattle" from 2 Earthquake DBX12"

The box is a pre-build POS purchased by the previous woofer owner. Because I have no wood working tools or wood glue I think it might be cheaper to buy another pre-build. But il try to find something really high quality. Also I looked inside the enclosure and what little glue I can see seems to be sitting on the surface of the seams, its bright white and full of holes (looks like garbage). Also I noticed the motors of the woofers are covered in white stuff that looks like corrosion, or am I just confused lol

What part of Maine are you in? I'm heading home tomorrow (from Farmington area through to Massachusetts). If you're on the way I could have a look.

Personally I'd say get a few dozen 1 5/8" coarse thread sheet rock screws, drill pilot holes and screw every 6 or 8 inches on each seem of the box and see what happens.....of course your real fix is a proper box.

hmm'white stuff" hopefully thats not saw dust, as that saw dust can get inside your woofers and potentially damage them. and i wouldnt reccomend another pre-fab.you should try to fix that one, or not save up money to get one built to your specs.its alot better than going from one pos to another imo.

I'm up in PresQue Isle bud, but thanks a lot for the offer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif You think particle board screws would do a better job?

@99Cherokee, the white stuff isn't sawdust, its hard to describe but it looks like metal corrosion. Il take a pic when my roommate gets back with the truck.

****...well that's a little out of the way....from about everything. Looked at some land up in Houlton a couple years ago. Nice country, but the locals were telling me that there's a temperature that's the same in C and F..... I hope to never find out what that temperature is!

I don't know what particle board screws are, but if they're coarse thread they should do the job.

They look boss enough to hold this pos together. Yeah people up here aren't the brightest, living here is only a temp situation anyhow. EPA studies have found really high levels of lead in the water, to me this explains the locals.

Lead in water you say? Glad I didn't buy up there....then again the locals up my way are a little odd as well... (dude on the left is a dead ringer for my old neighbor)

Box is definitely a problem. Try the screws. If that doesn't help, Home Depot will typically gut a piece of wood up for you and if you have a saber saw, a drill, and a caulking gun you can probably knock something together for

I wish bud, don't even own a power drill, also I realized today iv been running the subs at half power essentially. So when I get a new amp idk if screws will hold this box together lol BTW did you see the second video I posted with the box getting smacked like the POS it is?

Yes, that's why I said, definitely the box. Well if you don't own a drill IDK how you're going to screw that seem tight.....

The box looks like particle board. Its nothing but saw dust glued together. It may have got wet and that would explain the white powder and possibly the rattle. Go to home depo and get either wood glue or an auto parts store and get gorilla snot. Where ever you apply it just wipe all the dust or dirt off or you will have the same issue. Ive always used regular 1 1/2" wood screws and reinforced the box before gluing it(usually about 6-8" apart). Its particle board so pilot holes shouldn't be necessary, but still recommended if screwing the corners. Make sure you get a solid wall and the screw feels tight(never hurts to test it after your done then glue over the screw heads to keep them from rattling out). Ive done it with just a Philips, but you will feel the burn after the first 5-6 screws, lol. Ive never tossed a box unless its junk or too much water damage. I'm CleanPrix and I approve this message. lol

Oah, and let the glue dry COMPLETELY before hooking it up, read the glue bottle, and if you put it on thick, double the dry time to be sure.
